Step I

lead-in

Have a greeting to students and play a guessing game which is about different jobs in order to arouse students’

interests and introduce the topic: learn to write an application letter. Step II

Presentation Teacher shows an application as an example. Students will read this letter and take part in the following activities.

Activity 1 Matching

Teacher asks students to read this letter and match the main idea of each paragraph. According to this activity, students can master the general structure of application letter. Activity 2 Understanding

Students have to read the three paragraphs and get some details.

In the paragraph one, students is going to find what Judy’s dream job is. In the paragraph two, students will find out the three qualified reasons and match the right aspect to each reason.

Step III Practice Task 1 Choose a job Teacher sets a situation that there are three individuals are dreaming to be a teacher, a doctor, and a solider. Then teacher divides the whole class into three groups and tell them that each part are going to help one person to write an application letter.

Task2 Give a purpose

Teacher asks students to complete the three sentences which is to give a purpose in an application letter on the PPT.

Task3 List some reasons

At first, teacher will give an example about how to list some qualifications to the ideal job, including ability, experience and personality. Then 6 students in a group discuss the applying

reason to each job which was presented in task 1.Later, teacher will invite three groups to share their ideas.

Task4 Show my gratitude.

Teacher presents three Chinese sentences which are to show thanks and gratitude on the ppt. Then students will translate each sentence into English. Finally, teacher invites some students to speak out their answer and checks it

Step IV Production

Students finish the application letter by themselves. At the same time, teacher will help the students who have some troubles in writing this letter. Later, teacher will invite some students to share their compositions with the whole class. Step V Summary Teacher makes a conclusion and lists some sentences on the PPT and encourages students to work hard and try their best to achieve theirs dreams. Step

VI Homework 1. Share your application letter with your classmates after class. 2. Search for more application letter on the internet.
