Story time

Analysis of the teaching material:

This is a useful text which is about seeing the doctor in our daily life. Su Hai has a fever and the doctor tells her to have a rest, take some medicine and drink some warm water. Mike has a toothache and the doctor asks him to brush his teeth every day.

Analysis of the students:

What they have already achieved:

Students in Grade 5 have learned English for some time and they have the stimulation and interest in learning English. Most of they can understand the text as a whole according to the pictures. What they are expected to achieve from this class:

The New English Curriculum puts the priority on developing students’

interests, motivation, confidence and learning strategies. In this class, we expect students to read and understand the text, do some concerned exercises and have the awareness to develop good habits in life.

Feedback: This topic is common in our daily life. So students understood and learned the lesson without too much difficulty. I designed the lesson as a whole. Firstly, I let students watch the story time and answer the questions. Next, we learned the first picture together. Then, students learned the second picture on their own. Finally , they had some practice after learning the whole story. Most students performed well in this class. They showed much enthusiasm and participated in the activities actively. Maybe I can design some challenging questions next time in order to improve their critical thinking abilities.
