Grammar didn’t need to do & needn’t have done

一、need 的基本用法

1.用作实义动词，和其他普通的实义动词一样，有时态、人称和数的变化，后可以接名词、代词、动词不定式和动名词等。否定句要在其前面加don’t (doesn’t，didn’t)，疑问句要用do (does，did)提问。

常见搭配：need to do sth需要做某事

need sb to do sth 需要某人做某事

need doing＝need to be done (某事)需要被做

Do you need some help? 你需要一些帮助吗？

You don’t need to be so worried. 你不必这么担心。

The garden doesn’t need watering/to be watered; it rained last night. 花园无需浇水，昨晚下雨了。

2.用作情态动词，意为“有必要，必须”，没有人称和数的变化，后接动词原形，通常用在否定句和疑问句中；变为否定句时只需在need 之后加not；变为疑问句时只需将need提前。回答由need引导的问句时，肯定回答一般用must，否定回答时用needn’t。

You needn’t finish that work today. 你今天不必把那项工作做完。

—Need I answer the question? —Yes，you must./No，you needn’t. ——我需要回答那个问题吗？

——是的，你必须回答。/不，你不必了。

二、didn’t need to do和

needn’t have done

didn’t need to do表示过去没必要做某事，实际上也没做。needn’t have done 表示过去没必要做某事，而实际上做了。

It was Sunday，so I didn’t need to get up early. 因为是星期天，所以我没必要早起。

You needn’t have been to work.It’s Sunday today. 你本不必去上班的，今天是周日。

You needn’t have told him the news.He had already known it. 你没必要告诉他那个消息，他早已知道了。
