To arouse the students’ appreciation of eco-fashion and ethical fashion. 2.

To encourage the students to develop a more profound understanding of fashion.

Teaching Procedure I. Lead in (0.5’)

II. Revision (6’) I)

Word Revision(3’) Task: Students are required to paraphrase the sentences on the screen using the new vocabulary in the text. II)

Content Revision(3’)

Task: Students are required to summarize the advantages and disadvantages of fashion according to the content of the text. Then a question is put forward—Should we follow the fashion or not?

III. Expansion of the text (17’)

I)

An exchange and discussion of students’

self-study ideas about the pre-discussion learning materials, which is a passage about eco-fashion. (10’)

Task: The students share what they have learned on their own before the class and improve their own answers by learning from each other. Then the teacher will collect their thoughts and make necessary comments and offer instructive advice.

Purpose:

to help students learn about a new form of fashion—eco-fashion. At the same time, inspire the students to discover more advantages of fashion. II)

A discussion about another new form of fashion called ethical fashion. (7’) Task: The students are to watch a video clip about ethical fashion and require the students to discuss the following questions in the group. 1.

What is ethical fashion? 2.

What can ethical fashion change according to the video clip? 3.

What will happen to the African people involved in the project?

Purpose: to introduce ethical fashion to the students and lead them to find more advantages of fashion.

IV. Further thinking and production (15’)

A mini speech--- Should we follow the fashion?

Task: Students are required to take part in a group discussion to figure out the answer to this question. Each group approaches the topic from a specific angle. They should collect, summarize and report the opinions of group members to the whole class in form of a speech.

Some reference angles:

I) Can fashion improve self-image? II) Is fashion a good business or a bad one? III) Will fashion help the environment or destroy it? IV) Can fashion help people in need? V) Should we take fashion too seriously? VI) Is fashion important?

Purpose: to give the students a chance to express their views concerning a specific topic with the help of what they have learned in this lesson. V. Conclusion: (1’)

Purpose: to enrich students’ perception of fashion.

VI. Homework (0.5’)

Search for more new forms of fashion and report it among the group next time.
