Step 1. Warming up

Let’s listen to an English song together . Finger Family of fruit. T: Do you like English songs?

Ss: Yes!

T:Great! Let’s listen to an English together.If you can sing, you sing. If you can’t, let’s clap hands.

T: Great! Now let’s enjoy.

Ss clap hands and sing.

Step 2. Leading in

T: The song is very nice.From the song, we can see apples. They are fruit.Today I bring you a thing. They are red. They are round. Can you guess ? (T shows the thing, but cover them.)

Ss: Apples!

T: No! Not apples.

S1: Tomatoes.

T: Great! Let’s check. They are tomatoes.And they are vegetables. Step 3.Presentation

1.Study “tomatoes”.

1) T shows the picture of a tomato. Ask students to read it.

T: It is a tomato.How to spell it ?

What are these? (show two tomatoes)

Ss: They are tomatoes!

T: Great! Show me your hand. Let’s spell it. T-O-M-A-T-O-E-S. 2)T plays tape. Asks Ss to listen and read.

T: If I say “tomatoes” loudly, you will say them in a low voice. If I say in a low voice, you say loudly.

T:“Tomatoes!!”(loudly)

Ss: tomatoes! (low voice)

T: tomatoes! (low voice)

Ss:tomatoes!!! (loudly)

3)T shows Ss real tomatoes.

T:Look at the ...

Ss: tomatoes!

T:They are ...

Ss: red. / big.

Then T shows the sentences: Look at the ... They are ...

4)T plays tape of sentences. Asks Ss to listen and read.

Then T shows pictures of yellow tomatoes and small tomatoes to Ss. Ask Ss to say.

Ss: Look at the tomatoes. They are yellow.

Ss:Look at the tomatoes. They are small.

2.Study “potatoes”

1)T shows the picture of potato plants.

T:look at the picture. They are vegetables.Can you guess? What are these?

S1:They are tomatoes.

S2:They are carrots.

S3:They are potatoes.

...

T: Now let’s check. (then T shows the result.)

Yes. They are potatoes.

2)T shows the picture of a potato.

T: It is a potato. It is big. Look at these. What are these?

(T shows the pictures of some potatoes.)

Ss: They are potatoes.

T: show me your hands. Let’s spell it. P-O-T-A-T-O-E-S. 3)T plays tape. Ask s Ss to listen and read the word.

Then T ask some Ss to read them.

4)T takes out some real potatoes. And ask:

T:Look at these ...

Ss: potatoes.

T:They are ...

Ss: big!

Then T ask Ss to listen and read the sentence.

5)T asks Ss to hand up real potatoes and practise them.

3.Study “ carrots”

1)T shows many pictures quickly. And ask

T: just now, what vegetable can you see ? Do you remember? S1: carrots.

Then T shows the picture.then check it.

T:Yes! They are carrots.

2)T shows the picture of a carrot. Then Ss read it together. T shows the pictures of carrots.

T plays tape. Ss read it.

3)T takes out carrot. And say

T: Look at the carrots. They are long.

4)T play tape of sentences. Ss listen and read.

5)Ss take out real carrots and practise it.

4.Study “green beans”

1)T shows picture of “ a green bean” .ask Ss to read the word.

2)T shows pictures of “green beans”. Ss listen and read.

3)T takes out long green beans. Ss say.

Ss: Look at the green beans,

They are long.

Then T cuts down the long beans to make them short.

Ss: Look at the green beans.

They are short.

4)Ss use real green beans to practise key sentences.

Step 4. Consolidation

1.What’s missing ?

See the pictures, and answer what is missing quickly.

2.Choose your vegetable and say.

T puts some tomatoes, potatoes, carrots and green beans into the basket. Ask Ss to choose and say.

Ss: Look at the...

They are ....

3.Let’s chant together.

I like tomatoes.

I like potatoes.

Carrots I will try. I love to eat green beans.

But onions make ma cry.

Step 5. Study the picture book “Up, down and around”

1.Warming up

T shows the pictures of vegetables “tomatoes,potatoes,carrots, green beans.” and ask.

T: Boys and girls. We have learned these vegetables. Do you know how do they grow?

Then T show the pictures of the dirt, water and seeds. Then takes out real things of these, and explain to Ss.

2.Leading in

T: Today we are going to learn the book. Up, down and around. It is written by ... From the cover, What vegetables can you see? Ss: I can see pumpkins and carrots.

S1: I can see peppers and green beans.

S2: I can see corn.

Then T shows pictures of these vegetables on the blackboard. T read them, Ss listen and read.

3.presentation

T: now let’s plant vegetables together. Then T show the first part of the book.

T: Look at the picture. How does corn grow up ?

Ss: Corn grows up.

T: Yes!

(Then T explain “up” to Ss. Then say and do the action.)

T: Look at the picture.How do carrots grow ?

Ss: They grow down.

T explain “down”to Ss.Then do actions.

Then T puts up corn and carrots on the blackboard.

4.The same way to study how do peppers and potatoes grow. Then put pictures on the blackboard.

5.T show the picture, and ask

T: How do pumpkins and green beans grow? Grow up ?

Ss: No!

T: Grow down?

Ss:NO!

T: They grow around.

Then T uses the ribbon to explain the word “around”.

Ss read and do the action.

Then T put pumpkins and green beans on the blackboard. 6.The same way to explain how do okra and onions grow .

Ss listen and read them. T asks Ss to put pictures on the blackboard.

7.T: We grow all the vegetables. Look! They are big. Let’s pick and pull them. Have a big lunch.

8.T makes a summary of all vegetables on the blackboard.

T: How do they grow?

Ss:Corn, peppers, okra grow up.

Carrots, potatoes,onions grow down.

Tomatoes, green beans, pumpkins grow around and around. 9.Let’s make your own vegetable chant!

Step 6 .Emotion promoting.

T: Boys and girls. Look at these vegetables. They are healthy and fresh. Let’s eat more vegetables and grow up! Up! Up!
