Duration: 40 min Analysis of the students: 1.The students are in Grade 6,they are active and curious, interested in English.After learning English for three years and a half.They have some English background knowledge.So the teachers should attach importance to the communication with them and provide them the chances of using English. 2.The pupils usually use intuitive thinking in their studies.So the teachers should present more pictures and situations for them to help them learn English. Teaching aims: 1.Knowledge aims (1)Enable the students to master the following new words and phrases: library,left, end, go down..., turn left, at the end (2)Get the students to be familiar with the sentence pattern: Is/Are there ...? Yes, there is./Yes, there are. 2.Ability aims: (1)Help them to understand the dialogue better and improve their skills of listening ,speaking and reading. (2)Enable the students to ask for directions and offer help in English. (3)Foster students’ ability of communication and innovation. 3.Emotion aims: (1)Encourage the students to help others. (2)Foster the students’ consciousness of good cooperation and proper competition.

Step2.Lead-in Create situation that this morning I met a foreigner and he asked for directions and he wanted to go to the library .Then ask the students.” Would you like to help him?”

Step 3.Presentation Presentations for the new words and target language. 1.Show a map of the city and then ask,”Is there a library near here?”to lead in the title “Is there a library near here?” and the word “library”, Teach the word with the game “high and low voice”. 2.Then lead student to answer” Yes, there is.”

Practice the sentence. 3.Then show more of the map, and ask,”Is there a bus station/hospital/ bookshop/school/park/supermarket... near here?”Let the students to master the sentence “Yes, there is.”

4.Mark some places on the map to encourage the students to practice the sentence “Is there a ...near here?”

5.Imagine that we are now in the library ,then show the pictures of the library on the screen. And ask ,”Are there any storybooks in the library?”and lead the students to answer ,”Yes , there are.” 6.Show more things in the library,and ask,” Are there any desks/chairs/lights...in the library?” to get the students to master the sentence”Yes, there are.”

7.Show a picture of one book/doctor/student and a picture of some books/doctors/students to let the students distinguish the difference between “Is there a ...? Yes, there is.”and “Are there any ...? Yes, there are.”

8.Set a destination on the map for students to tips to get there, such as:library,school,park... Practice the sentences”Go down this street.”

“Turn left/right at the end.”

Step4.Fast reading. Let the students read the dialogue quickly and show them some questions on the screen to help the get the main idea. Question:What are they talking about? Step5. Intensive reading. Let students read passage carefully again and answer some details questions on the screen. Question1: Is there a library near here? Question2: Are there any English storybooks in the library? Question2:How to get to the library? Check the answer. Step6.Listening. Let the students listen to the audio and read after it . Step7. Practice Task1. Get the students read the dialogue together. Task2. Work in pairs and role play the conversation. Step8. Consolidation. Show some places like hospital,school, park, bookshop...on the map and give the students some tips to get there.Let them make their own dialogue and act it out. Step9. Summary 1.Summarize the new words and target language. 2.Encourage the students to help others. Step10. Homework Draw a map of our city and make a dialogue about ask for directions and offer help with your partner.
