Chao Jingru Material analysis: The content of my lesson is Revision Module A from New Standard English textbook by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press. This is a revision module which contains activities that are related to the language introduced in Module 1-6. It is intended as a way of checking that the students know that language, and giving them some additional practice.

Student analysis: The target students are Seventh Graders. They have learnt English in middle school for only a semester. They are interested in pictures and audios and eager to express themselves but lack of the ability to put grammar into practical use. Moreover, they want to get a better understanding of how to read a passage and how to do imitative writing.

Teaching objectives: I. Knowledge objectives By the end of the class, students will be able to: 1.

master and consolidate the words and phrases about making plans, describing the future, shopping, asking and giving directions, lost and found and describing abilities. 2.

describe their plans, the future and give the right directions. 3.

use the adjectival possessive pronoun, the nominal possessive pronoun, the modal verb “can” and the Simple future tense correctly. II. Ability objectives By the end of the class, students will be able to:

1.

use communicative strategy and prediction strategy. 2.

use reading strategies to understand the structure and details. 3.

develop the ability in imitative writing. III. Moral objectives By the end of the class, students will be able to:

1.

learn to make plans before everything. 2.

help and care about others by finding lost items and giving directions.

Teaching method: Communicative teaching approach and Task-based language teaching

Teaching importance:

1. master and consolidate the words and phrases about making plans, describing the future, shopping, asking and giving directions, lost and found and describing abilities.

2. describe their plans, the future and give the right directions. 3. use the adjectival possessive pronoun, the nominal possessive pronoun, the modal verb “can” and the Simple future tense correctly.

Teaching difficulties: To apply the Simple future tense to describe plans and the future.

Teaching procedures: Step 1

Lead-in 1.

Ask students which holiday is coming this weekend. 2.

Elicit anwers to the question: How to make plans? (According to the following six aspects: what/where/why/when/who/how ) Purpose: The question helps to check what students already know about the topic. It also makes students think about the topic schematically. This is the first attempt to critical thinking. Step 2

Presentation 1.

Present some pictures of holiday activities and ask students to say some phrases about them. 2.

Ask students to think of prepsitions before different time.

3.

Draw students attention to different ways to describe transportation. 4.

Invite one student to do a model dialogue about holiday plans. 5.

Ask students to ask and answer questions about holiday plans in pairs. 6.

Invite students to present the dialogue to the class. Purpose: This activity helps students to review the words and phrases about making plans and gives them a chance to communicate with partners which helps put the grammar Simple Future Tense and vocabulary into real use. Step 3

Listening

1.

Ask students to go through the table and predict what kind of words should be put in the blanks.

2.

Encourage students to answer two more questions if they are able to. Q1：What is Tony's mother? Q2：Why doesn't Tony want to be a teacher? 3.

Play the recording of the dialogue. 4.

Check answers. 5.

Ask students to talk about their own dreams in the future and give reasons using because, can and be good at.

Purpose: This activity helps students to train the prediction strategy in listening. Two additional questions help to teach by different levels. By asking students to talk about their own dreams, it trains students ability in imitative speaking.

Step 4

Speaking

1.

Present six aspects of the future life with pictures. 2.

Encourage students to use the sentence structures to describe the future life in full sentences. Purpose: Students are cultivated to express their own opinions using Simple Future Tense in different situations.

Step 5

Practice 1.

Create a shopping scene and ask students to put sentences into different groups.

Purpose: To let students know what to say when shopping. 2.

Create a scene of finding the lost and found office and ask students to give directions. 3.

Finish activity 8 on page 39. Purpose: Doing practice by creating different real scenes to make the task more acceptable to Grade Seven students. Step 6

Reading 1.

Ask students to read the passage in activity 13 and check the true sentences. 2.

Encourage students to find out the structure of the passage.

3.

Show the structure. Purpose: Lead the students to focus not only on the detail information, but also the structure of the the passge which helps train students’

ability in using reading strategies.

Step 7

Writing

1.

Ask students to observe the structure of the passage above. 2.

Give students a sample writing according to the structure. 3.

Ask students to write their own passage about their favorite city. 4.

Share the writing with the whole class.

Purpose: Give students a sample writing and encourage them to do imitative writing. It helps students to get a clear understanding of how to write certain passages. Step 8

Summary Summarize what students ahve learnt today.

Purpose: Use pictures of previous activities to remind students of the lesson learnt today.

Step 9 Homework Ask students to choose one of the following tasks to do after class.

A: Make a list of things you are going to do during the May Day holiday. B: Write a passage about your plans for the holiday.

Purpose: Assign different homework to different levels of students.

Reflection and evaluation Through situational tasks, most of the students’ interests are aroused and they show great eagerness to speak, listen, read and write.By the end of this class, most of the teaching objectives have been achieved.
