1 Greetings

Good morning everyone. My name is Yang Liu, I am from Experimental Primary School Affiliated with Sichuan University Western Campus. It’s my great pleasure to be here to share my lesson with you today. And I hope I can do my best.

Well I am going to talk about this lesson from these following 5 parts. Teaching Material& Students Aims, key points& difficulties Methods & Strategies Procedures

Summary 2 Teaching material & Students

Firstly, I’ll talk about the teaching material: I got this lesson from PEP Primary English, Book 3A,

lesson 1 of unit 6 : Birthdays. Here is the main scene of this unit.

I’ll talk about the first period of this lesson which includes three parts: Look, listen and chant./ Order and say. / Let’s write.

As you can see, it’s the first lesson of this unit, the function and status of it are to pave the way for the study of next few lessons.

After analyzing the teaching material, I’d like to talk about the students. Students have learned some words and expressions about numbers in Grade 1 and 2. And now they will learn some new words about months. 3 Teaching aims, key points and difficulties.

Based on the analysis above, I’ll talk about the aims/ key points/ difficulties.

As you can see on the PPT, there will be 4 aims of this lesson. (Comprehend/ understand and listen/ understand, listen and say/trace.) And, there will be 2 key points. 1, understand and listen.

For the difficulty aspect, students will try to talk about their own birthday months correctly. 4. Teaching methods and Learning strategies On the basis of teaching content and NEC, meanwhile combining students’

situation, I will mainly use Task-based teaching method and knowledge transferring in this lesson . In learning, students will be able to cooperate and communicate with others to complete learning tasks actively.

When learning a new word, students will read these words in different ways. I have mainly prepared four ways for them.

The aim of this step it to motivate students’ interests in reading.

5 Teaching procedures

Therefore, let’s move on to the teaching procedures. I’ll focus my teaching procedures on five steps.

warm-up /lead-in / presentation / consolidation / summary

Step 1. Sing a song. My birthday is actually in December, I will show students a picture of me. Gudie them to sing a birthday song to warm up the class.This can help students pave the way for the study of next few steps and motivate students’ enthusiasms.

After this, it will be the lead-in part. The main scene will be used here.Students

have learned christmas and New Year’s Day in Grade 2. It can predict some words and sentences from the main scene.

Now, we’re here in step 3. Presentation. Learn new words and talk about their

birthday months will be the main task for this step. Students will learn new words mainly through the chant and will talk about their birthdays through some activities. Here are the activities::

(Activity 1): Look, listen and say. Students will listen to the chant a few time to learn new words. Then students will try to read words.The aim here is to help students understand the key words. For these 4 words, they are pronuned the same in the last part /ber/. Students will try to spell October/ November/ December after they learned September. This is also to develop students thinking abilities.

(Activity 2): practice. The “What’s missing?”

game will be used here to help students review and practice words. It will play like this.

(Activity 3) Describe their own birthday months : Students will try to describe their own birthday months with the sentence “My birthday is.... ”

Firstly, they will watch the examples in the book. Then, students will do pairwork like this. ...

(Activity 4): Chant and point.

Here are all the steps for procedures. In this part, by observing, listening, reading and practicing, students will further understand these words about pets. And they will also be able to describe their pets.

6 Consolidation Now let’s focus on step 4: Consolidation. which is the key step to break through the key points and difficult points. And there will be 2 activities. Trace words and watch a video. In Activity 1: Students will trace words under the guidance of audio aids. In Activity 2: Students will watch a video about clothes. It can help students to further master the key words.

7 summary. A few questions will be used to help students revise the knowledge they’ve learned in this class. (1)
