Part1: My understanding of this lesson The analysis of the teaching material: This lesson is the first lesson of unit 6, book 5. It includes three parts: look, listen and chant, order and say and let’s write. In section 1, it mainly deals with these key words of 12 months. In section 2, it provides a game for the Ss to practice the patterns: My birthday is in…And in section 3, it gives a writing task to mater the key sentences we have learnt this lesson. Teaching aims: 1.Knowledge aims: (1)Learn the new words: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December. (2)Enable the Ss to understand and speak the sentences:

My birthday is in ……

2. Ability aims:

(1)Improve the students’

listening and speaking ability. (2)Train their ability of working in groups. 3. Emotion aims: (1)To enable them to express their thoughts about birthday. (2)To let students have more love about life. Teaching important points: (1)

To learn and read these key words of 12 months. (2)

To help the Ss to use the structures:

My birthday is in ……

(3) To develop Ss’ interest in English.

Teaching difficult points: (1)

To make sure that Ss can speak and use these key words correctly and skillfully.

To help the Ss ask and answer the question “When is your birthday? Before this unit, our students have known little about months, so it’s difficult for them to understand and use these words. In order to solve the problems, I’ll design some interesting games to practice them through my class. So, I set the following aims: Part 2 The teaching and learning methods

Teaching methods:

1.Task-based teaching method to establish a real scene and the interaction between the teacher and Ss. 2.Communicative language teaching method to offer the Ss an opportunity to speak English by making a survey“When is your birthday?”

Learning methods: Group and cooperative learning will be the mainly methods. It can cultivate the students’

team spirit, arouse their interests and make them positive in learning English. Part 3. Teaching process Now I’ll talk about the most important part teaching procedures. I have designed the following steps to train their abilities, especially for speaking ability.

Step 1 Warm-up and lead in First, I’ll greet the whole class as usual.I’ll draw a birthday cake on the blackboard and ask “What’s this ?” .Then tell them that today is Sam’s birthday.

Let them sing the “

Happy birthday song”

to attract their interests.

Step 2 Presentations Now I’ll mainly talk about this step.

1.First, I’ll draw a calendar

on the blackboard .At the same time, I will tell them that My birthday is in March. 2.After that, I’ll teach them the new word “

March”

and the sentence My birthday is in March. Let them read and speak in different ways.

( one by one, groups, girls,boys）

3. Next I will ask them one question:When is your birthday?(The Ss can answer their birthday date in Chinese) Then I’ll choose someone to point to the month . For example, they point to 10. According to this, I’ll teach them the word

“October”

and lead them say:My birthday is in October.The other words will be taught in the same way. 4.After that I’ll let them Chant to have a rest. January , February , one and two March ,

April ,

three and four

May , June ,

five and six

July , August ,

seven and eight

September , October , nine and ten

November , December ,

the year is done ! Step 3 Practice OK, now, let’s do some practice. 1.“Show and say”

in this step, I show the word as soon as possible, students should read the words quickly and correctly.

2.“What’s missing”

in this step, I’ll show them a missing word, the Ss should

read it. 3.“Let’s guess”

in this step, I’ll give them several pictures and describe them. Students should read the words. Step 4 consolidation In this step, I’ll let them work in pairs to make a survey with the structures. After that, they should write the answers in the form. Then I’ll choose some of them to act out. My birthday is in ...... My mother’s birthday is in...... Step 5 Summary and homework In the end of the class, I’ll give the students a brief summary. Today the
