1. Leading-in Purpose: To review what they have learned last class. Lead Ss to the topic of Pygmalion. Teacher may say, “Last class we’ve talked about something about Pygmalion. When we refer to Pygmalion, two things may come to our mind. One Pygmalion is an artist in a Greek story. He made a stone statue of a beautiful woman, then he fell in love with it. Thus, he asked the Goddess to bring it to life. At last, his wish was granted and they lived happily ever since. The other one is the name of a play written by George Bernard Shaw. The play had the same theme with the Greek story. Last class we have learned Act One

fateful meetings. It is mainly about the first experience of Eliza meeting with Professor Higgins and Colonel Pickering. So how did they meet each other? Now please enjoy a role play. 2. A role play by students Step 2. Reading & discussion

Purpose: To get a brief understanding of the text. After enjoying the play , I will ask them two questions: Do you think Eliza would go to find Higgins and what would happen next? Ask Ss to read this scene in two minutes and discuss the questions, and then answer them in pairs.

What will happen between Pickering and Higgins? Suggested answers: 1.Eliza went to ask Higgins to teach her English so that she could be a lady in a flower shop. 2. Pickering made a bet with Higgins that if Higgins could pass Eliza off as an upper class lady, he would admit that Higgins was the greatest teacher and he would pay for the lessons. Step 3. Group work

Purpose:

To get Ss to have their own opinions about Eliza and can express themselves properly. After learning Act one and two, the teacher ask Ss to predict whether Eliza would realize her dream. And Ss will discuss two questions: What will you learn from Eliza? What will you do to

Realize your dream?

The answers are various. Two students will show heir opinions in the front of the class. The teacher will share some meaningful sentences with Ss. 1.

Every life is a boat, and the dream is the boat sail. 2.

The important thing in life is to have a great aim, and the determination to attain it.

To accomplish great things, in addition to dream, must act. 4.
