Unit 4 Learning efficiently Pre-reading (The second period) The analysis of the teaching material: This is the second teaching period of this unit. The central part of this unit is the reading passage with the name of Learning efficiently, showing the Ss many reading techniques that Ss need. Warming up gives us a survey about WHERE DID THE TIME GO that must be filled in and investigated. The pre-reading activity

provides a lot of questions for Ss about reading to find, to think, and to compare, etc.

We find, in fact, that the second period’s aim of teaching is only to lead /allow Ss to find, to think, to compare, etc. When it comes to reading, there will be different words in different people’s minds. But, knowing how to read efficiently is more important for Ss .In other words, knowing how to read is more important than reading itself. I think the

following materials are all about the concrete techniques that Ss should grasp. So, our teaching important and difficulty points are how to help Ss improve their self- consciousnesses about how to read efficiently. In view of this point, I will make a careful teaching plan. TEACHING AIMS AND DEMANDS: 1 To help Ss to improve their self-consciousnesses of reading. 2 To compare the methods of reading between Chinese and English. 3 To help Ss to improve their speaking abilities, when communicating with each other. EMOTION GOALS: Ss should learn how to share their reading abilities. There is a activity about ASK-ANSWER-SHARE for Ss to practice. TEACHING AIDS: A projector, a computer and a Multimedia machine, etc. PROCESSES AND METHODS:

1 While having a check about yesterday’s lessons, let Ss do a survey about study habit-----------where did the time go. This activity tells Ss the time they spend every day is related to their reading study habit..
