Teaching design for grammar -present perfect continuous 一、Teaching content This grammar point is from Unit 5 Book 8. Students have learned present perfect before, they have got something about it. Therefore, it would be a good way to make a comparison between these two tenses. 二、Teaching objectives Knowledge objective 1.Master the connotative meaning of present perfect continuous. 2.Tell the difference between present perfect continuous and present perfect. 3.Master the structure with for/since. Ability objective 1.Describe what recently has happened by present perfect continuous. 2.Make a dialogue with present perfect continuous and present perfect. Emotional objective 1.Enjoy the beauty of language and different connotative meaning of two different tenses. 2.Arouse interest in learning English. Teaching important points 1.Master the connotative meaning of present perfect continuous. 2.Describe what recently has happened. Teaching difficult points 1.Tell the differences between present perfect continuous and present perfect. 2.Share something with present perfect continuous.

三、Teaching procedures Step I Greeting Step II Lead-in Ask students to describe pictures, each picture with one sentence. Purpose: To introduce the structure has/have been doing.

Step III Explanation of the present perfect continuous. Explain the three situations in which present perfect continuous can be used. Make students have a deep impression about them by using timeline and key words. Purpose: to make them have a clear idea when they can use present perfect continuous.

Step IV Exercise

Purpose: to check whether they have mastered it.

Step V for or since For or since can be used to indicate how long something has happened. By comparing them in pictures and sentences, students notice their differences.

Purpose: to have a clear idea about which they can use when making sentences.

Step VI Comparison between present perfect continuous and present perfect. By observing pictures and comparing sentences and judging

whether it is right or wrong, students notice their differences and make a conclusion in a form about the differences of those two tenses. Purpose: to notice the different connotative meanings of different tense and use them correctly.

Step VII Exercise Step VIII Sharing Share Share one thing you have been doing and try to use present perfect continuous and present perfect. Purpose: to put what we have learnt today to real context.
