Getting ready 

Bring in some real money, e.g.￥1

￥2 ￥5 ￥10 ￥20 ￥50 and ￥100 bills. 

Teacher: (show a ￥1 bill) This is one yuan. One

yuan. 

Continue with different bills. 

Teacher: (show a ￥10 bill) How much is this? Students: 10 yuan. 

Do the same with some other notes. 

Tell students that yuan is different from dollar to give them an idea of different currencies. In the story dollars refers to US dollars. It is an option t tell students the conversation rate of yuan into US dollar.
