Teaching aids: English books, a computer, Multi-media equipment, two boards

Teaching procedures: Step 1 Lead-in Look at four books about poems.

Step 2 Pre-reading 1. Check the previewed work. 2. Try to remember the words in a minute. 3. Check the understanding.

Step 3 While-reading ‘My dog’

1. Enjoy the video. 2. Ask and answer two questions about the poem. 3. Read after the video, and then read together. 4. Do some exercises.

‘My goldfish’

5. Lead-in the poem. 6. Read after the video, and then read together. 7. Work in pairs, ask and answer. 1

Step4 Presentation Read the poems in groups. Show the group reading in front of the whole class. Then, vote for the best group.

Step 5 Post-reading 1. Talk about the main characteristic of a poem—rhyme. 2. Find out the rhyming words in the poems.

Step 6 Expanding activities 1.

Try to write your own poems about pets.

Step7 Summary Enjoy poetry, enjoy life. Be keen readers.

Step 8 Homework 1. Finish Part B3&B4 on Page 96. 2. Recite the poems. 3. Write a poem about your favourite pet. 4. Find more poems about pets on the Internet.
