[Designing Background] “New Curriculum" has become the forefront of the education reform. The main theme of the new curriculum reform is to arouse students' subjectivity and to respect their personality development, so the new curriculum has put forward new demands for both students and teachers. Students, taking place of teachers, are the real subject of the class. Classroom teaching should strive to guide students from passive acceptance of knowledge to active search for knowledge. To realize this, teachers must develop students’ interest in learning and guide students to actively taking part in class. Students gain knowledge through active exploration into knowledge. So in this design, a task-based language teaching method is employed. [Analysis of the Teaching Material] Junior English puts emphasis on students’ active learning, attaches importance to their sound feelings, attitudes, values and views on life. Unit 7 of 7B aims to let the students know how to talk about one’s abilities. Task of this unit mainly intended to help students know their abilities and write a recommendation letter according their abilities.

[Analysis of Students] Students of Grade 7 are in a new period of learning, which is also one of the most important period of cultivating their learning interest and good learning habit. They hope to enjoy the process of learning instead of boring presentation of words and grammar. So teachers should try to create context in class to arouse students’ curiosity and creativity. So I divide the teaching of this lesson into several tasks with the order of increasing difficulty. Students will learn to write a recommendation letter.

[Learning Aims] At the end of the class, students will be able to: 1. read and understand a recommendation letter;

2. write a recommendation letter to recommend a classmate for an award; 3. know how to write a good article; 4. learn to find beauty in daily life and make the world better.

[Important Teaching Point] Understanding what makes a good recommendation letter.

[Teaching Procedures] Task 1 watch and talk 1.

Watch a video clip about Superman as a revison of what students have learnt in this unit and lead in the topic of abilities and personality. Q1:Who do you see in the video ? Q2: Do you know what Superman can do? (refer to textbook P86) Q3: What do you think of Superman? 2.

Brainstorm words about people’s abilities and personality with the help of pictures.

(polite, helpful, careful, kind, warm-hearted,brave,smart,clever…)

Task 2 Learn new words Learn new words and phrases in context. (lose one’s way, Project Hope, children in need, hear from sb, take part in, recommend sb for) Task 3 Read and analyze 1.

Read to get the format of a recommendation letter. 2.

Listen to analyze the structure. 3.

Read carefully to find out what kind of boy Daniel is and learn how to appreciate an article 4.

Fill a table to review what has been learnt about Daniel. Task 4 Discuss and share 1.

Discuss in groups of four and share ideas with each other. Our class is going to have a parents’ meeting on the school Open Day. Your class teacher wants to give awards to some students.

Different awards in the class: The Most Popular Student Award; The Most Helpful Student Award. Questions: Who do you want to recommend? Why do you want to recommend him/her?What is your hope? 2.

[Reflection after class]

Junior English includes a wide range of subjects and rich content.

This design is to create a relaxed atmosphere of the class with students being the subject of the class. Writing is a boring work. This design makes the students actively get knowledge in constantly completing a few tasks of specific order. The teaching procedures are interlocking.
