I. Teaching aims and learning objectives By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

1. learn about the Palace Museum by reading and listening; 2. finish different tasks with the information they get; 3. make plans for a visit in English.

II. Teaching contents New words and phrases: golden throne, work, works of art, painting, row, hotel, own, row a boat

III. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty 1. To talk about different palaces in the Palace Museum. 2. To talk about the plan for a day out.

Before-listening

1. T: Today Neil is our tour guide. He will show us around Beijing. The first station is the Palace Museum. Do you know anything about the Palace Museum? T: Neil gives us some information. It’s in the center of Beijing. It’s the biggest museum in China… There are many palaces in it. Neil shows a map to us. So the most important palaces are… Let’s learn more about them.

T: Look at the picture. It is Taihe Palace. There is a golden throne in it. It is …

2. Fast reading. T: There will be a treasure show in the Palace Museum. Neil gives each of us a poster. Please read the poster and tell me:

(1) What is the poster about? (2) What can we see in the shows? 【设计意图：通过快速阅读，进一步了解有关故宫的知识。】

Step 3 Listening 1. A2 T: Here is a poster of the show. Read the poster and complete part of the table on Page 37. What can we write down? What’s in Taihe Palace/…? T: Some information is missing. So we need to listen again and find out the time to complete the rest of the table. T: After listening, we can see… in…Palace at… Please practice using this sentence structure.

2. A3 T: Neil takes some notes. But there are some mistakes. Please correct them according to A2. Then listen to the tape and check your answers.

T: That’s all for the Palace Museum. Do you have a good time? Then we will move to the second station-Beihai Park. If we want to visit someplace, we need to make plans for the visit.
