To help students master the difference of restrictive and non-restrictive attributive clause 3. Enable students to use the relative pronouns and adverbs freely. Teaching Procedures

Step 1 Lead-in The teacher will present some sentences to assist the students to understand the function of the attributive clause. Ask the students to read these sentences and translate them into Chinese. The boy take that book to me. Be quick! He who laughs last laughs best. He who doesn’t reach the Great Wall is not a true man. God help those who help themselves.

He who is content is always happy. Step 2. Presentation The teacher explain attributive clause, the relative pronouns and relative adverbs to students:

Attributive clause: An attributive clause is a clause modifying a noun or a pronoun in a compound sentence. Antecedent: The word modified by an attributive clause is called a antecedent. Relative: The word that is used to introduce an attributive clause is called a relative. There are two kinds of relatives, i.e. relative pronouns and relative and adverbs.

Note : Relatives play three important roles in an attributive clause, i.e. introducing an attributive clause, replacing the antecedent in meaning, and functioning as a sentence element in the attributive clause.

Step 3. Practice time, and have a try.

Show the following exercises on the screen. Then ask students to discuss in group. The teacher can join in and give them advice and suggestions where necessary.

1.Then ask students write their answers on the board.

Mary will never forget those days

she study very hard.

she had a holiday.

she spent with her best friend.

was her best memory.

she treasures very much. 2.To complete the attributive clauses with proper relative pronouns and adverbs.

This is the house
