Procedure Step 1

Lead-in

Reading Use a video made by the classmates to show the problem of the snakes

Mother: (appearing upset) Daughter: Mother, you look upset. What’s the matter? Mother：There are snakes in our courtyard. And it seems that they have settled down near the walnut tree. Can you

get rid of them without harming them? Daughter: Sure. Don’t worry.(bending down near a tree and trying to find out the solution) Friend 1: Hi,Candy. What are you doing here? Daughter: The snakes have a habitat here. I was wondering how to catch them.

Friend 2: Oh, that’s easy. What about powders designed to kill snakes? Daughter: I am afraid not. I can’t harm them. My mother has mercy to living creatures. Friend 3 : Oh ,why not remove their habitat as I often do with the bird nest? Daughter: No, that’s too dangerous. Friend 4: why not attract them into a trap using male or female perfume? Daughter: I am afraid it doesn’t work either. Actually I have a perfect idea already. So hi classmates, do you know my solution to the problem of the snakes? Just remember, there are always more solutions than problems. Step 3

Group work

According to worksheets Exercise V(see worksheets导学案), work out the preparation and the procedure of catching the snakes.

One member should speak, one act and one write down what the speaker says on the blackboard. The other four give advice.(Every member should take part in it) (worksheets导学案)V.Read paragraphs 3-6 carefully and find out the preparation and procedure of catching the snakes. 1) She bought a stainless steel ice-cream maker and froze the bowl for a night. Then she added ice-cubes to the top of the bowl to keep it cool. She placed it over the snakes’ habitat during the day and covered the whole thing with a large bucket.

2) As above she did the same but placed the bowl over the snakes’ habitat in the evening. 3) As above but added a net to catch the snakes. Step 4 Moral education

1.Ask the students whether the procedure of catching the snakes is an invention.

2. Create an activity to see whether the students are creative or not. Ask the students to finish the drawing using the two lines given and name their drawings. Group members decide on a best one and show to the class. Step 5 Homework 1.Rewrite the story in your own words. 2.Discuss with your members what inventions you like better, how the inventions change your life and what problems you have and want to solve in the future. 教学评价Reflection
