Teaching aims: 1. By the end of this lesson, you’ll be able to understand summaries of two science fiction.

2. By the end of this lesson, you’ll be able to know how to write science fiction stories and then write. 3. By the end of this lesson, you’ll be aware of the importance of reading.

Step 1 Lead in 1.T: As we know, the college entrance examination was over. As senior high students, did you pay attention to this year’s exam? Is it difficult? Actually, many people are really interested in every year’s writing, so am I. I find a really interesting one, let’s check it.

So, can you guys imagine, Q: What will the life be like in 2035? At that time, you are 30 years old.

T: I think with the rapid development of science and technology, life might be really different at that time. All your imagination might come true in the future.

2. Q: Are you interested in the future world? Let’s enjoy a short video.(Movie- Star Wars)

Q: Do you know what kind of movie it is? (Science fiction) Do you know what is science fiction or do you have some more information about it?

Q: Have you ever read any science fiction stories? (Ss answer)

3. T: What a coincidence, the reading comprehension part of Sichuan Province is about science

fiction, let’s check it.

T: The reading material comes from Liu Xinci’s novel- micro era. Do yo know Liu Xinci? He is one of the most famous science fiction writer in China, you must know his famous novel- The Three-Body Problem.

T: In this interview, Liu said he was amazed at science fiction stories could be chosen to the college entrance examination. But, I think, it’s normal, because such kind of books are really popular among the readers nowadays.

T：Do you know other science fiction writers apart from Liu Xinci? Ok, never mind. Today I’ll introduce two more famous writers to you.

Step 2 Presentation

T: They’re Jules Verne and H.G.Wells. So let’s get to know them one by one.

Journey to the center of the earth 1.T: First, let me introduce Jules Verne to you. Jules Verne（1828-1905）Jules Verne was a French author and is regarded as the father of science fiction.Verne was famous for writing about space, air and underwater travel long before they were possible.His famous science fiction stories are Journey to the Center of the Earth, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Around the world in Eight Days. T: Are you interested in these books, I have some of them, and maybe you can read them after class.

T: Today, we are going to read one of his novels, so first of all, let’s enjoy a video about it, please watch carefully and then I’ll have some questions for you.

T: How do you think this film? It might be very interesting at that time. It was produced many years ago. Maybe you can’t see clearly, but it’s never mind, here is a passage about it, please read it by yourself. And here are some questions for you, you can underline some useful sentences when you are reading

-They see a big underground ocean, a beautiful forest and ancient animals that have

disappeared in the world. Q1: How do they come back to the world above?

-A volcano in southern Itlay bring them back to the earth.

T: Now, let’s find some detail information.

5.T: So much about their journey. But please pay attention to the last sentence‘Their adventure was over, but a new one was about to begin.’

Q: Can you imagine what will happen next, or where will they go? (Ss imagine) T: You can find more interesting stories in this book.

The Time Machine 1.T: Ok, now let’s get to know another famous science fiction writer, he is H.G. Wells, let’s see some introduction of him.

H. G. Wells（1866-1946）

As an English novelist, H. G. Wells is well-known for his science fiction stories. His writings: The Time Machine, The Invisible Man, The War in the Air, The War of the Worlds.

T: Ok. We’ll read his most famous novel- The Time Machine, do you want a time machine? What can you do with it? First of all, let’s see what do they do with it. Now, please listen to this part carefully and think the following questions.

3. Q1: What has the scientist invented?

- A machine that can take him into the future. Q2: What does he find when he travels to year AD802,701?

- Two kinds of creatures-

the Eloi and the Morlocks. Q3: What is the world thirty million years into the future like?

- The sun no longer shines in that world, so it is cold and scary.

4. Q: What is the time machine like?

5. T: Doraemon has a time machine, I borrowed it from him. Now who want to take it? You can go to either past or future. (Ss discuss)

T: If you want to learn more about his adventure, you can read this interesting book.

T: I think these two books are really interesting, you guys can read more books of these two writers after class, or Liu Xinci’s novels, and also other science fiction stories.

Reading is important and it helps a lot.

Step 3 Practice T: It’s time for you to write your own science fiction stories. Are you ready? If not, never mind, I have some tips for you: You’ll be able to start your project after you answer the following questions. 1. What interesting science fiction stories have you read? 2. Which one do you like best? Why? 3. What would be a good setting for a story? 4. Who will be your main character and what will he do?

T: To make your stories more interesting, let’s play a game. You can work in groups. First of all, you should make sure the name, time, place, characters of your story, then everyone of you write your own parts, only several sentences, then you put each part together, and you can draw some pictures for your first science fiction story book. Finally, each group pick a leader to make a presentation. Here is my example.If you understand me, please do it.

(Ss discuss and write) SHOWTIME!!! T: You guy are really creative. I think all of your stories are interesting. I want to edit all your writings into a science fiction story book of our class.

Step 4 Home work So much about today’s lesson, so toady’s assignment are: 1. Read the text.

2. Finish your first scientific fiction book, both writing and painting. 3. Underline some useful expressions and try to use them in your future writing. T: And remember to read and always be creative!
