（1）To have students read the passage and talk about the play making the bet. 2 、Ability aims: （1）To develop students’ reading ability and enable them to use some reading skills,such as skimming,reading , inference and so on . （2）To train the students’ ability of studying by themselves and through cooperation.

Step1Revision Check the homework.

Ask the students to review Act One: Fateful meetings. Step 2 lead-in Show a short screen about the play making the bet to the

students . Step 3 Careful reading

Work in groups.Each group will receive a paper containing one of the following tasks.Finish the task by scanning the related paragraph in the text.After that ,the representative of each group should take turns to have a report in class.

Q1: Do you think Eliza is very ambitious? Q2: Why did Pickering fancy himself? Q3: What habits did Eliza have? Q4.:What do you think Higgins would have to do to change Eliza into a lady? Q5: How do you think Colonel Pickering? Step4 Post -reading Ask the students to listen to the tape and then close the books to fill in the blanks.
