Ss list the foreign language class they are taking. Teacher then introduces the top 10 foreign languages in the US and that many Americans are learning Chinese. Ss then watch a video in which Americans learn to speak Chinese.

Step 3 Ss listen for the second time and identify the language that Rob and Diane are learning respectively. Ss read the statements, listen to the conversation and tick True for the correct statements. The statements are as follows: 1.

Rob's Chinese teacher Davis is a native speaker of Chinese. 2.

The assistant teacher Ms. Wang is Chinese. 3.

Rob was disappointed with his first Chinese lesson. 4.

Diane is excited about her Spanish class. 5.

Diane misundertood the level of the class that she went to. Ss listen and fill in the blanks. The blanks left are key words of the text, which will be studied in detail later.
