The Time Machine Teaching Aims: To learn what a science fiction story is like. Teaching Important and Difficult Points: How to make students understand the science stories better. Teaching Procedures: Step 1 Lead-in 1.

Show two posters of time-travel TV series, and ask students: Do you like to watch it? How can we make it? 2. Say: Now please watch a video, and try to get to know what it is about. It’s all in English. Show them a prevue of the movie: The Time Machine. Say: It is a prevue of a movie. Have you got the name of the movie? What’s the name of it? What is the machine used for?

Say: In this movie, the leading actor invented the time machine and drove it to travel into the future or the past. So by the time machine, people can travel to the future or the past. It’s amazing, isn’t it? Say:

The scientists can’t make such a machine at present, but people always believe one day, with the development of science and technology, even the wildest dreams could come true in the future. This belief is one origin of a type of writing, called science fiction.

Step 2 Reading 1.

Science fiction and H.G.Wells Say: Science fiction is a type of writing based on fantasy. Science fiction writers often write about what will happen in tomorrow’s world. Say: Today we are going to learn a summary of a famous science fiction: The Time Machine.It was written by one of the most famous science fiction writers: H.G.Wells. H.G.Wells is an English writer, now please read his brief introduction together. The students read the introduction together. Say: The Time Machine was his masterpiece. 2.

Step 4 Discussion

Say: So much for the language study, it’s time to use your imagination and please discuss in groups: If you had a time machine, what would you like to see, the future or the past? What would you expect to see or do there?

Students work in groups. Say: Last but not the least, I hope you can remember and please read it together: Yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery, only today is a gift. That is why we call it present, so don’t get lost.
