Lesson 14 Are You Short or Tall? 一、Teaching Content Lesson 14 of Unit 2 of HEP Primary English Book 二、Students Grade 4 三、Teaching Aims 1. language knowledge By the end of the lesson, students will be able to read, recognize and use the words short, tall, metre and point; They will be able to use sentences such as “How tall are you? I am 1.4 metres tall.”

2. language skills By the end of the lesson, students will be able to ask height of others in English; Their abilities of listening and speaking will be developed. 3. emotional aims The emotional aim is to help the students cultivate their abilities of communicating in English. 四、Teaching Points 1. main teaching points To make sure that students can use the words and sentences correctly and skillfully. 2. difficult points The pronunciation of the words and phrases: metre, one point four, one point four five 五、Teaching Methods Communicative language teaching method 六、Teaching Procedures Step 1. Greeting and Warming Up ( 3 minutes ) After greeting with the students, the teacher show two pictures about comparing of two people which helps to lead in the new lesson “Are You short or tall?”

Step 2. Presentation (15 minutes) The teacher ask the students, “

I am tall. Are you short or tall?”

The students answer one by one. Next, the teacher play the video of part 1 and have the students listen carefully. After listening, They tell what Mr. Wood and his students are doing? Then the teacher shows some words and phrases in PPT to describe the height and teach them the words and phrases. The teacher shows the dialogues “ How tall are you? You are 1.4 metres tall.”

“How tall are you? I am 1.4 metres tall.”

“ How tall is Danny? He is 1.3 metres tall.” and have them read several times. Step 3. Practice The teacher measures the heights of the students with a tape one by one. The students ask the teacher their own heights and the teacher asks each student his or her height and ask other students about the student’s height. (The students write the

heights on their paper) Step 4. Development The teacher have the students make dialogues with their partners. Then the students do a survey to ask things about other students. (The teacher shows firstly.) Step 5. Conclusion The teacher cultivates the students to conclude the knowledge of the lesson. They should know what they should remember. Through the conclusion, it is clear they have mastered the knowledge of this lesson. In the future, I will continue to set more interesting activities to draw their attentions.
