To enable students to learn about cloning and make students realize the benefit of cloning and the harm of cloning. Teaching materials The teaching materials of this period contain three parts. The first part is a reading passage. It mainly talks about the possibility of cloning fierce and extinct animals, which always interests film makers and teenagers. The conclusion of the passage is: the chance of dinosaurs ever returning to the earth is merely a dream. The second part is Speaking task, which asks students to speak actively in class and develop their speaking ability, while makes preparations for writing. The third part is Writing task. It asks students to write an argumentation. Teaching key points and difficult points: (1)

Help students understand the reading passage; (2)

Teach students how to write an argumentation. Teaching procedures: Step 1 Lead-in

Show students the pictures of different dinosaurs and ask students the following questions: 1)

Have you ever seen the film Jurassic Park? 2)

Do you like dinosaurs? 3)

Do you think it possible to bring the dinosaurs back to life by cloning? Step 2 Scanning

Ask students to scan the passage and answer the following questions: 1.

What is the writing style of the passage? 2.

What’s main idea of the whole passage?

Step 3 Detailed reading (1)

Guide students to summarize the main idea of the passage: Para 1: Introduction to cloning dinosaurs Para2: Reasons for impossibility of dinosaurs coming back to life on the earth. Para3: Conclusion of little chance to clone extinct dinosaurs. (2)

Guide students to read paragraph two and answer the following question: does the author think it possible for people to clone a dinosaur? And why?

Find the reasons. (3)

Guide students to find the writer’s attitude towards cloning dinosaurs. Step 4 Speaking Ask students to think about the question: Since there is little chance to clone extinct dinosaurs, how about cloning human beings? Can we clone humans? Communicate your ideas with other students. Step 5 Writing Ask students to write an argumentation according to the requirement of the writing task.
