The Bronte sisters and Mary Ann Evans had to pretend they were male writers before anyone would take them seriously. In pairs or groups, discuss how you would disguise yourself if you were a girl and wanted to follow one of these careers. What problems might arise in the 19th

Example: I was a girl in England in the 19th century. Since childhood, I had been dreaming of becoming a judge and help people, especially the poor ,to obtain justice and put the criminals to prison. But a girl, I couldn’t go to law school nor can I

become a judge. After serious thinking, I decided to have a try. I put on men’s clothes, wear my father’s suit and tie and went to apply for a law school. Luckily I was successfully accepted. After years’ of hard work, I finally became a judge in the court.
