Teaching aims and demands

Knowledge and skills:

Students can learn some adjectives and use these words to describe a person. 2.

Students can learn certain reading strategies, using skimming to get the main idea and using scanning to find specific information in the passage. Process and method:

Students can have a better understanding of their teachers’ teaching styles.

Teaching key points and difficult points Teaching key points: Enable students master two reading skills: skimming and scanning. Teaching difficult points: Enable students get to know different teachers’ teaching styles and make a description.

Teaching procedure Step 1 Introduction (10min) T: Good morning, class. Since you have been in Lvshun Senior High for more than two weeks, you must have met a lot of new teachers and new classmates. Now let’s think about some words to describe them in group. Activity 1: Brainstorming

T: You should come up with some adjectives to describe people and write your answers on the handout first and then write them on the white board. Don’t forget to divide the words into two kinds. T: You have all done a great job. So let's conclude some useful words which can be used to describe people. 【设计意图】让学生以小组合作方式，进行头脑风暴，将学生已知的描述人的词汇归纳整理，为下一步描述新老师打好词汇的基础。

Activity 2：Description of new teachers and classmates T: Since we have learnt all these words, now we should use them to describe our new teachers. Please look at the screen and try to use one sentence to describe them.

T: This time describe one of your classmates and do not say his/her name. Let other students guess! 【设计意图】以学生熟知的老师导入本模块话题，让学生根据提示和活动一中获取的词汇描述自己的老师和同学，能激发学生的热情并与学生生活实际相联系。

Step 2: Skimming (5min) T: Since we have already discussed what our teachers are like, we are going to see what teachers in other places will be like. Read the text quickly and find the main idea of the passage.

T: The main idea of the passage is that it introduces three teachers and students’ impressions of them. But how can we find the main idea of a passage when it comes to reading comprehension? We can get main idea in many ways. 【设计意图】训练学生阅读中略读技巧，在短时间内找到文章大意，并对接高考阅读理解中常出现的主旨大意类题目，帮助学生总结此类题的做题技巧。

Step 3 Scanning (10min) T: Read the passage again and answer some questions. Each group will choose one question and choose a spokesman to share your answers. 1. What first impression did Mrs Li give to the writer? Why?

A: She was nervous and shy. Because it was her first lesson with us. 2. Why don’t you feel completely stupid in Mrs Li class?

A: Because she just similes when students make mistakes or pronounce a word incorrectly. 【设计意图】训练学生查读技巧，能在短时间内在文中找到所需信息，对接高考阅读理解中的细节理解题型。学生以小组合作方式解决问题，效率更高。

Step 4 Careful reading (6min) T: Read the text again and fill in the blanks.

Step 5 Post-reading (8min) T: After reading, we have known that different teachers have different teaching styles. So which kind of teacher do you like best? In other words, what kind of qualities do you think a good teacher should have? Discuss in group and write down your answers on the board. 【设计意图】在阅读后学生对阅读内容能有自己的思考并将阅读所输入部分变为输出，以说的方式表达出来。同时，学生也能更好的理解老师，建立良好的师生关系。
