Warming up

How to learn English well?

Work hard and trust yourself ! If you think you can, you can. I think you can, so you can! Encourage Ss to learn English well with the Pygmalion effect

(皮格马利翁效应

) ----“What we expect tends to come true. ”

“说你行，你就行，不行也行；说你不行，你就不行，行也不行。”

心理学家莫顿（Robert Merton）将此现象名之为“自我实现的预言”。这也就是在萧伯纳名剧

“ Pygmalion ”

中为人所熟知的“皮格马利翁效应”（Pygmalion effect）。

萧伯纳George Bernard Shaw, 英国伟大剧作家,他的作品以反应社会问题为主,内容严肃,语言优美,剧情充满机智和幽默.他1926年获得诺贝尔文学奖. He is called a second Shakespeare.

Step 2 Presentation

Pygmalion, a gifted artist, dislikes local women. He spends much time creating a stone statue of a beautiful woman. He falls in love with the statue and goes to the Greek Goddess to ask her to bring the statue to life. As a result of his prayers, his wish is granted and the statue is made into a real woman. The two marry and live happily ever after.

Step 3

Oral practice

(Pair work) 1.Enable the Ss to retell the above story in their own words to their partners with the help of some linking words, such as “at first, later, gradually, later, at last, luckily...”

2.Volunteers to share the story with the whole class. Step 4. Making up stories (Group work) Ss take turn to make up stories and share with the other members in the group.

Step 5.Homework Practice more story telling and prepare a presentation for the next following days.
