Teaching procedures: Step 1 Greetings Greet the whole class as usual.

Step 2 Lead-in 1.

Show the pictures of Xiamen to lead in today’s topic of western European villages.

Show the pictures of western European villages and ask students the following questions: What do you think of the beautiful scenery? Do you want to live there? 3.

Then tell students there are some problems with the pretty villages.

Step 3 Fast reading Task 1 Finish the mind map. Let students skim the text and complete the mind map.

Task 2 Analyze the second paragraph and sum up every respective advantage or disadvantage of them in groups. 1.

The teacher will find the first problem and analyze it to get the advantage of living in villages. 2.

Then the teacher will let students analyze the rest of the problems just as the teacher does.

Step 4 Review the second paragraph and do task 3. Help students revise the para. 2 and focus them on the signal words.

Task 3 Read and discuss. 1.

Let students read a poem to get some inspirations for discussion.
