A Teaching Plan for the Flipped Class of B10 U1

Learning about Language: Revising the Use of the Attribute

Lecturer: Xin Limei （辛丽梅，武汉中学）

Teaching Aims: 1. The students can understand the following three forms as the attribute: a single word, a nonfinite phrase, an attributive clause. 2. The students can use the attribute in some situations.

Teaching Aids:

i-pad, multi-media and hi-fi equipment, blackboard, learning

sheet

Teaching Procedures:

I. Lead-in

Play a video starred by a smart robot in our school and present some related sentences with the attribute to show what is to be learnt and explored in this period.

II. Feedback on Independent Learning 1.

Feedback on the micro-lecture posted online on the previous day Show the statistics about the time spent watching the micro-lecture of each group before the class.

Feedback on the questions raised by the students before the class Present the questions still puzzling most of the students, which will later be explored together in class.

III. Basic Practice

1.

Translate the sentences to practice “single words” as the attribute. 2.

Fill in the blanks to practice “nonfinite verbs” as the attribute. 3.

Complete the multiple choices to practice “attributive clauses”

as the attribute.

IV. Advanced Tasks 1.

Task 1: Explore how to choose v-ing and v-ed to be the attribute.

2.

Task 2: Explore the use of “which” and “where”, “which” and “when”, “which” and “why” and encourage the students to make up some similar sentences.

3.

Task 3: Explore the use of “whom” and “who”.

V. Advanced Practice 1. Practice 1: Describe the students performing on the stage using

sentences with “v-ed” or “v-ing” as the attribute.

2. Practice 2: Complete the dialogue with who, whom, which, where, when and why.

VI. Application

Write a short paragraph to introduce your favorite teacher and explain why you like him/her

VII. Homework 1. Read the passages posted online and find out the attribute. 2. Finish the exercise posted online.

3. Raise some questions still puzzling you online.
