一．Analysis of the teaching material

Alice in Wonderland tells the story of a girl named Alice. She fell down a rabbit hole and then she came to a dream world. She saw cards moving like man. She saw animals talking like man too. When she woke up, she found it was a dream. Down the rabbit

hole is the first part of the story. She fell down a rabbit hole after the rabbit. This part can arouse students’ interest in knowing more. 二．Teaching aims: 1. To learn new lexis: pass by, run across, jump down etc and learn about the past forms of some verbs. 2. To learn about the article by using reading strategies like skimming, scanning, detail reading and so on. 3. To develop students’ ability of retelling by using the lexical sets in the article and acting the story out.

4. To arouse students’ interest in reading the other parts of the book. 三．Teaching aids:

七．Teaching procedures: Step1. Leading-in

1. It’s spring now. People like going out to look for the beautiful place. Look! This is the wonderland. Do you know what the wonderland is? (write the world “wonderland”on the blackboard) Yes, we can find the wonderland in the real life. We can also find the wonderful in books. Today, we will follow a gril called Alice to look for the special wonderland in her dream.(Write “Alice in” before Wonderland. ) (The purpose of designing this step is to lead students into the book Alice in Wonderland) 2. Ask students “Do you know anything about the book Alice in Wonderlan? (The purpose of designing this step is to lead students into the book Alice in Wonderland and to

activate students’ existing knowledge of the story Alice in Wonderland. ) 3.Tell some background information to students.Show some pictures about the book and explain something about the book to them. (The purpose of this step is to make students have an impression in their minds what the book is about .)

Step2. Pre-reading 1.Prediting:

Ask students to guess who will jump down the rabbit hole? (Write down the answers on the blackboard and tell me the answer later.) (The purpose of this step is to arouse students’ interest in the subject matter of the text.) 2. Teach new lexis in the real context and then play a guessing game.

(The purpose of this step is to be familiar with the important lexis in the article. In this way, students will have a better understanding of the article. ) Step3: While-reading

1. Ask students to skim the first paragrough of the article and answer the questions: When and where did the story happen? Who was the story about?

(The purpose of this step is to develop students’

ability of getting the main idea of the paragraph.) 2. Ask students to read Paragragh 2 carefully with the two questions: a. What did the rabbit

do? What did the rabbit say?

(The purpose of this step is to develop students’ ability of getting the specific information of the paragraph.) 3. Tell students that the rabbit seems to be very happy. What would it do next? Read the third paragraph and write a sentence under the pictures.

(The purpose of this step is to develop students’ ability of get some detailed information of the paragraph. ) 4. Show some pictures related to the rabbit’s activities and ask students to summarize what the rabbit did.

(The purpose of this step is to develop students’ speaking ability by using the language learned before. Also, it will help students to retell the story well. ) 5. What did Alice do? Ask students to read Paragrah3 and complete the table. Students will find that Alice did the same thing as the rabbit did.

( This can help students have a clear clue.) 6. Alice jumped down the rabbit hole. What will happen to her? Let’s enjoy the video. ( Wachting the video can help students have a vivid impression about what happened.) 7. After watching the video, I will ask students to read Paragraphs4-5,and then finish the cloze. (Students will find all the important verbs in these two paragraphs and know Alice’s activities as well.) 8. Show them some pictures and ask students to say the important sentences related to Alice’s activities.

(This step is to help students find the clue of Alice’s acitivities.Also, it will help students to retell the story well. )

Step4: Post-reading

1. Group work: Rewrite the story in your own words and then act it out.

(The purpose of this step is to develop students’ speaking ability by using the vocabulary and grammar they have learnt.Also, it can provide students with opputunities to relate what they have read to what they have already known. It enables students to produce language based on what they learnt.) 2. Would Alice go through the door? Students may answer “Yes”. And then, I will ask them to have a discussion about how Alice go through the door at last?

(The purpose of this step is to let the students use their imagination and to arouse their interest in knowing more about what would happen next.) 3. Summary: Show students some pictures and help students summarize the whole article and write the important verbs on the blackboard.

( This step is to help students to consolidate what they learned.) 4. We guess Alice would go through the door. Do you want to know what the world behind the small is like? Please get a book named Alice in Wonderland. You will find out a wonderful wonderland. You will get pleasure in reading. Books can give us light. Be friends with books. Love life, love reading! (In this step, I just want to reach my teaching aim---arouse students’ great interest in reading.) Step5: Homework

1.Read the article fluently and try to memorize the whole article. 2.Rewrite the whole article in your own words and tell it to us in the next class. 3. Finish off the exercises in the Exercise Book.

4. Read the following parts of Alice in Wonderland.
