Sentences: It’s been six years since we saw each other. It’s the first time I’ve visited your hometown.

This is one of the most attractive places I’ve been to.

Ability aims ⑴ Learn to understand the dialogue not only by reading strategies like skimming and scanning, but also by finishing different tasks; ⑵ Develop students’ speaking and communication ability through individual and pair work ⑶ Improve the students’ reading ability of collecting and dealing with information.

Teaching and learning methods 1. Communicative approach: Encourage students to talk actively in class, build up their confidence, and construct relaxed atmosphere.

2. Task-based language teaching: Ask students to accomplish different tasks.

3. Students decide which the new vocabulary and master the pronunciation and intonation of a conversation, and how to introduce a city. Ⅳ

Teaching procedures Step 1: Warming-up (2 min) Greeting and competition design: Greet the students and divide them into two groups (Boys VS Girls). Let’s see which group will be the Super Group.

Step 2: Lead-in and pre-reading: (9 min)

Guesswork (3 min) Present a picture about a lot of money, and give students two hints to make them guess which city we

are going to talk about.

Hint 1 It is located in Fujian province. Hint 2 It is famous for the Gulangyu Island.

A video and some pictures about Xiamen (6 min) Ask students “What’s your first impression of Xiamen? ” Students need to use one adjective word to describe this city. I collect their answers on the Blackboard. If they don’t offer the word “lively”, I will put forward it, and ask “Don’t you think Xiamen is a lively city?”

Step 3: While-reading (16 min) ⑴

Circle the words of task 3, page33 and underline the sentences I prepared for them.

Ask them to work in groups and guess the meaning by themselves at first and then I check the answer with them. ③

Crazy English: Read the key sentences as loudly as possible. ⑵

Skim the reading and finish the paper I prepared for them. (4 min) ⑶

Discussion (5 min) According to the reading we learnt and students’ former knowledge, I ask students to discuss “ If

you are going to describe Nanjiang, which aspects will you go to talk about? ” \ ⑵

Make a dialogue and act it out (7 min) I present a table about Nanjiang and the students play roles of tour guides to introduce it. Then act the dialogue out to the students. This task is to encourage students to put what they have learned or discussed into use, as well as using the key words and sentences in the dialogue.

Step 5: Assignment (1 min)

⑴ Get on the website to know more about Xiamen. (www.xmtravel.com.cn)

Write a description of your favorite place. Step 6: Learn English Every Day (1 min)

Students master the spoken English sentence: Just in case! Ⅵ

Blackboard design The title of the passage is on the top of the blackboard. Divide the blackboard into two parts. The left part is for some key words, while the right part is for the group design. Ⅶ

Teaching reflection Considering that students are different from one to another. I set different tasks for them to arouse their interest. But because the students have difficulty in understanding all of the English directions. I need to make my class alive and encourage the students to talk with each other in English. I think the general aim of English teaching is to improve the ability of using English. And I’ll use this to guide my teaching.
