Analysis of Teaching Materials: The teaching content of this lesson is Integrated skills of Unit 8.

It mainly talks about goldfish and how to look after pets. II.

Learner Profile: The target students are students of Grade 7. They have the following characteristics. First, some of them have experiences in keeping pets, therefore, they are willing to share them with others. Second, they love animals and are eager to know much more about them. So they are interested in this lesson. Finally, they have known some amazing things about goldfish in Unit 4. As a result, they have grasped basic information about goldfish, which is helpful for teachers. III.

Overall Teaching Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

1. find the features about goldfish; 2. learn to finish the conversation with the available information; 3. learn to talk about how to look after their favourite pets in English. IV.

Main

Focus: Enable students to know about features about goldfish and to talk

about how to look after pets in English.

Anticipated Learner Difficulty: Students may have difficulties in talking about how to look after pets in detail in English because of new words. VI.

Goldfish Step 1 Lead-in

Free talk. Show a picture of goldfish and invite students to talk about the following questions: Do you want to keep goldfish as your pets? Why or why not? Students should use the sentence pattern: Yes, I do. Because… / No, I don’t. Because …

Step 2 Presentation 1.

A group work. Divide students into different groups and allow them to use ipads to search for information about goldfish on the Internet. 1)
