Sports events Welcome to the unit and word power Place: Multimedia Room

Students: Class 13, Grade 1 (No. 12 High School) Teaching aims(三维目标): I、knowledge and skills(知识与能力) 1. Help the students to learn some words about sports events. 2. Train their speaking，spelling and listening abilities.

1、competition to encourage students to speak English. 2、discussion to talk more about sports.

2、develop a positive and deep thinking about sports.

Important points & difficult points: 1.

Some terms about sports events.

How to express their opinions about their favorite sports and sportsman or sportswoman.

Procedures: Step 1: Lead-in 1.

Show some pictures to the students quickly, ask them to remember the sports events and speak them out. 2.

After seeing the sketches, the students write the correct word about each picture. Then check it.

Step 2: Game Guess who he or she is according to the description.

Step 3: Useful expressions

Give Ss some useful expressions to help them drill the pattern. Which do you like, …or …?

Football, I think. What’s your favorite sport?

I like… best.

Which do you prefer, … or ..?

I prefer … to …

Why do you like … best ?

Because …

Step 4: Discussion Use the expressions above to answer the following questions: 1.

How often do you play sport?

2.

What sports do you usually play? 3. Who is your favorite star? 4. What do you know about him/her?

Step 5: watching

Watch a short video and pick up some terms about sports events to enlarge their vocabulary.

Step 6: Competition

Divide the students into groups of three. Let them join in a competition and see which group can get a higher score.

Step 7: Enjoy a song

Listen to a song, pick out the key words and fill in the blanks. 2.

Try to get the meaning of the song: Olympics bring everyone closer together

Step 8: Homework 1.

Remember the words we have learnt today. 2.

Finish WB exercises.
