Teaching goals

1.

Students can use the words and phrases in the unit properly by doing exercise. The words are following: in return, in trouble, in disguise, in amazement, in plain, in delight, in shock 2.

Students learn the specific rules of the Grammar---Past participle as the adverbial and master the usages of the grammar by practicing. 3.

Students are able to use the Past Participle as Adverbial to make sentences in writing. II.

Teaching procedures Step I Word Study Ask the Ss to finish Ex.1 and 2 in learning about language. Then check the answers with the class. T: There are some “in”

Purpose: 1. To enable Ss to master some new words and expressions. 2. To encourage Ss to use the words in sentences. Step II Grammar learning First ask the students to find out the examples of the past participle as the adverbial in the play. Sample sentences: 1.

But, sir, (proudly) once educated to speak properly, the girl could pass herself off in three months as a duchess at an ambassador’s garden party. P30 Explanations: T: The past participle as the adverbial is a very important grammar, and it can indicate time, condition, reason, and way. We can add when/while/if or other conjunctions before the past participle in order to make the meaning more clearly. For example: Show the following: If bitten by a snake, you should send for help and don’t walk. The room, although supposed to be kept locked, was often left open. T: Now please look at the following examples. Can you rewrite these sentences? Show the following 1.

Purpose: To get Ss to have knowledge of the grammar Step III Practice （Using Structures in Workbook）

Ask the Ss to finish Part 2 and part3 on page 33. If time permits, continue Exercise designed for practice of past participle as the adverbial in workbook. Step IV Homework

Ask the students to do the followings. 1. Finish the Exercise in work book and supplement material on grammar 2. Preview the reading materials in Using Language Step V Blackboard Design

The blackboard design reflects the teacher’s ability to master the lesson and to lead the students to master the lesson easily.

Step VI Teaching reflection Grammar part is a little difficult and abstract for students to learn and use. At the beginning, students are interested in discussing and making sentences by using new words and phrases. Most students take an active part in group work. Some students have rich imagination in making sentences.However, some students are shy and they are not active in discussing. What’s more, students lack of confidence in presenting their sentences in front of the whole class.

As a teacher, I should design the teaching material more attractive and closer to students’ life so that they show interest in the lessons and discussion. In addition, I will give them more reference material when discussing. And most importantly, more encouragement is necessary and students are encouraged to speak as much as possible.
