Unit 2 King Lear Teaching Plan

1.Analysis of teaching material

This lesson is an adaptation of the first act of Shakespeare’s play King Lear.It is designed to broaden students’ horizon.Enable them to appreciate the classical English play, develop their ability to seek knowledge on their own,and change students’ style of learning and cultivate their core literacy for their future development. 2.Analysis of students

The students in my class have already grasped some basic knowledge of English but they are not familiar with English plays.So, it’s necessary for them to

do some preparations before class.On the other hand, they are interested in English and are eager to know more about it. It is important to design some interesting activities for them to participate. 3.Teaching objectives 1)Help the students to draw mind maps to identify the basic elements of the play and analyze the characters with information from lines and stage directions. 2)Get the students to comprehend the theme of the play with clues from the historical background and the analysis of the characters. 3)Enable the students to appreciate the play better by performance. 4)Help the students to build up right values by discussing about the importance of being truthful in interpersonal communication 4.Teaching and learning methods

Get students to know some basic knowledge of English plays and try to appreciate the play by analyzing the characters and theme. 6.Teaching difficult point

Step 1. leading in

Talk about Mother’s Day and the relationships between parents and children to

raise the topic. Step 2. background information

Ask one student to introduce Shakespeare according to the pre- class task. Step 3. Reading

Task 1. Find out the main idea of this part of the play.(individual work)

Task 2. Draw a mind map to show the characters and their relationship in this play.(pair work)

Task 3. Get to know the plot of the play and draw a mind map to show it.(group work) Step 4. Characters and theme analysis Activity 1 Introduce the historical background information.
