Teaching aims: To help the students to get more familiar to the relative clauses. To guide the students to use relative clauses in real situation. To enhance students’ awareness of sharing and motivate them to help others.

Key points ：

How to use the different relative clauses with which, who, whom, that, when, where, why, as…

Difficult points:

When do we use that only? When don’t we use “that”?

Teaching procedure: Step one Warming up 1. Review the play King Lear by asking questions.

1- Why does King Lear want to give away his kingdom? The reason _____he does so is ____ he is old and tired and wants to retire. 2- Who is the daughter ______the king is most fond of at the beginning of the story? 3 -Who are the daughters that are married? Cordelia’s elder sisters.

4 -What are the names of the men who want to marry King Lear’s youngest daughter?

5- Who is the man that wants to defend Cordelia? 6- Who is the daughter that really loves her father? 2 Students describe what characters the main roles have, using relative clauses if possible.

3 Students Watch the video and answer the questions:

Step 2

Students do the exercise bout using language individually first, and then check the answers. Students collect as many as samples from the text with relative clauses and underline the linking words. Then put them into Chinese.

Step 3 Presentation

Show different relative clauses by analyze the answers. Then ask the student to make a summary . Something somebody somebody something time…

Step4 Introduction of a volunteer teacher.

With the description of the teacher, students try to find out the special words which help them decide to use “that”

or“which/whom/who”. •

that you can visit in Africa.

Nor is it

that we know about, but it is the very country that we will talk about today. •

Step 5 Guessing game Students guess who the people on the photos are. It’s a chance for them to practice using relative clauses. Step 6 Speaking
