Teaching Procedure:

Step 1 Lead- in

1.Listen to the theme song of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, and

then ask students to guess the name of the song.（You and me）

2.Show pictures about Olympic Games to motivate the Ss’

enthusiasm. 3. Talk about the Olympics and encourage the students to share their information and express their opinions. As we all know, the Olympic Games are held every four years and it is a great honor for a country to host the Games.

How much do you know about the Olympics, for example, its history, ceremonies and sporting events?

1. How many Olympic games did you see? Where were they held? 2. Do you think they are exciting? 3. Who is your favorite athlete and who do you think is the greatest Olympian? Why?

Step 2 Fast reading 1.Ask Ss to scan the article(read after the radio) and answer the three questions in Part A. 2.Volunteer to answer the questions (1). What is the speech about?

The history and significance of the Olympic Games. (2). What was Pierre de Coubertin’s hope when he brought the Olympic Games back to life? He hoped that the Olympic Games would make it possible for people of all countries to live side by side in peace. (3).What does speaker wish for at the end of the speech? Give students 5 minutes to read the passage again and check the errors in each sentence. 2.Volunteer to answer the questions. 3.
