Objectives:
Language skill objectives:
1. With the help of video, Ss can understand the text and read it correctly, clearly and emotionally;
2. Ss can describe the Arctic according to the key words;
3. With the help of pictures, key words and sentences, Ss can describe their favourite place.
Language knowledge objectives:
1. Ss get to know the general situation of the Arctic and recognize the names: the Arctic, North Pole, South Pole, Earth; 2. Ss can describe with the sentence:
Go to ________, we will see ________.
Emotional objectives:
1. Ss are glad to know the foreign culture;they are willing to communicate with the language they have learnt in class. 2. Ss can cooperate with partners to complete their task.

Teaching process:
Step 1: T: Look at the girl. She is my friend. Her name is Nicola. Listen, what is she doing?
G: Hello.
N: Hello. This is Nicola speaking. Is that grandad?
G: Yes. It’s your granddad. Holiday is coming. What are you going to do?
N: I haven’t got any plans.
G: OK. Come to my place and have your holiday in the Arctic.
N: Have a holiday in the Arctic?
G: Yes.
N: Let me think about it. I will call you later.
G: Well. Bye.
N: Bye! Ss: She is making a phone call. T: What are they talking about? Ss: Holiday. T: Yes, they are talking about having a holiday in the Arctic.
Step 2: 1. T: Have a holiday in the Arctic. The Arctic? Look, here is an earth.
Ss learn to say: earth 2. T: Look at the Earth, where is the Arctic?
Ss find the Arctic on the globe and point to it with fingers. T: Oh, the Arctic is here. It is at the North Pole of our Earth.
Ss learn to say North Pole and South Pole. Then practice saying: Look, the Arctic is here. It’s at the North Pole of our Earth. 3. T: The Arctic is at the North Pole of our Earth. So have a holiday in the Arctic, is it a good idea? Why?
Ss answer the questions. Teacher takes notes according to their answers. 4. T: Let’s get to know more about the Arctic. ( Ss watch the short film about the text ) T: Now what do you about the Arctic? Ss describe according to what they hear, teacher takes notes.

Step 5: 1. T: The Arctic is a beautiful white world. It is very, very cold because it is at the North Pole of our Earth. Are there any animals living in the Arctic?
Ss answer the teacher’s question.
T: Yes. The Arctic is very, very cold. But it it very beautiful. And Many animals live there. Look, here is an arctic animal. What is it?
Ss: It is a polar bear. 2. T: Nicola likes animals. So she wants to know about arctic animals. After class, please visit websites and get to know about arctic animals. Then in the next lesson, we can tell Nicola things about arctic animals.
