Teaching Activities

Starter

1. Play a game: Truth or Lies

The teacher introduces herself to the children but requires the children to judge whether the teacher is telling the truth or lies.

2. Brainstorming

1) The teacher tells the children that:" It's true that I have been to London."

2) Ask the children to brainstorm what is London like according to the knowledge they've learned in the previous lessons.

Task 1. A view of London

1. The teacher shows the children a soft toy and tells the children that the bear will be happy to show the children around London, asks children to watch the slides and listen to the teacher'

1: Buckingham Palace

1) " This is a police bear from London and its name is Bobby, he likes showing tourists around London."

2) The teacher pretends to talk to the bear:

T: Hello, Bobby, I am so exciting,

look at the map, there are some many attractions in London., where are we going first?

B: If we are hurry, we can see the Queen in Buckingham Palace.

T: That sounds great, let's go!

3) Slides show some pictures

Pic 1: Oh, here we are at Buckingham Palace. It is the official home of the Queen.

Picture 2: Wow, we can see some

VIPs in Buckingham Palace.

Who is she? She is the Queen.

Who is he?

He is President Xi Jinping. He is meeting the Queen in Buckingham Palace. And Prince William and Princess Kate are meeting with President as well.

2 Tower of London

1) Bobby: I have got tickets to go to the Tower of London

How exciting. Let’s get on the double-decker bus. We need to be there by 3pm.

2) Here we are at the Tower of London. It is the most famous of all the historical buildings in London. In the past the it was a prison, but it is only a museum today.

Sight 3 Tower Bridge

Hello, Bobby, what's that over the river? Oh, it is the Tower Bridge. It is over 100 years old. It is a very famous bridge over the Thames. They open it when a big ship comes.

After visiting some many beautiful places, we are a bit tired now, let's take a boat trip to see more attractions in London

Look at the picture, what can you see? The Big Ben and London Eye.

Task 2. What we've known about London

1. I spy

1. Review the sights we've seen previously then hand out the photocopy of a map of London, children are asked to work in group to find out the places on the map then help the teacher to finish the blackboard design.

2. Domino$ London Pictionary

(1)Half of the class work in groups to finish the domino cards

(2) Another half of the class work in groups to finish a Pictionary of London

Task 3. Read a text about London

1. Show a picture of a British friend Mr. Davis who visited our school two weeks ago

and tell children that Mr. Davis wrote some letters to us.

2. Have children to work in groups and find out what attractions Mr. Davis wrote about.
