(1)T presents a box of words, which are followed by –ing and read the words followed by Ss. Then, T asks Ss to discuss in groups about meanings of the words.

(2)Next, T guide Ss to play a word-guessing game—each group picks a number from one to eight, and is given a question accordingly. T gives points according to Ss’ answers (3)At last, T provides a pithy formula for Ss to remember the words easily. 口诀记忆admit; avoid; consider; dislike; enjoy; finish; hate; keep; imagine; like; love; practise; stop; suggestIhadapplesin KFC.

2.Verb phrases followed by -ing

T guides Ss to think of verb phrases that should be followed by –ing and provides a pithy formula. 口诀记忆

3.Differences of verbs followed by “to do”

and “doing”

(1)T presents six pairs of sentences. In each pair, the same word is followed by “

to do”

and “doing”

respectively. T guide Ss to differentiate the sentences and fill in the blanks.

(2)T provides a pithy formula for Ss to better remember the six words. 口诀记忆remember, forget, stop, try, mean, regret记得尝试别忘记停止意味着后悔

2 Ss play the game, competing in groups.

T take down the pithy formula and what the letter stands for: “I”

refers to imagine; “h”-hate; “ad”-admit; “a”-avoid; “p”-practise; “l”-love,like, dislike; “e”-enjoy; “s”-suggest; “K”-keep; “F”-finish; “C”-consider.

Ss work in groups and recall verb phrases that are followed by –ing. Ss take down the pithy formula: “忍不住”refers to can’t help; “想要”-feel like; “放弃”-give up; “习惯”-be used to; “盼望”-look forward to; “坚持”-keep on.

Ss conclude meanings of each sentence and complete meanings of verbs followed by “to do” and “doing”.
