过去分词

教学目的：在尽可能贴近真实的语境中，学习动词过去分词作状语的用法。经过本课学习，学生能够懂得：

1、过去分词(v.-ed)短语作状语,表示谓语动作发生的时间、原因、条件、让步、伴随情况等,相当于一个状语从句。

2、过去分词的逻辑主语与主句的主语一定是保持一致的。

3、过去分词与主句主语之间为被动的关系；若分词与主句主语之间为主动的关系，则要用现在分词(V.-ing)作状语。

4、分词前边可以加when, if, unless, once, although等连词，构成“连词+分词”形式

作状语。

教学过程：

I. Lead-in T: (showing a picture of LQ) Do you know him? As we know, he had an amazing experience some days ago. Please have a look at the passage and fill in the blanks. Let’s recall Li Qiang’s trip to the future.

(短文填空：Li Qiang still couldn’t believe what had happened. He took up a time travel trip to the year 3008. As he was worried about the journey, he was unsettled for the first few days. Then he was accompanied(陪伴) by his friend Wang Ping and began his journey. When they arrived at the year 3008, Li Qiang had a headache because he was hit by a lack of fresh air. After he was taken to have a rest, he was back on his feet. Hovering carriages carrying Li Qiang and Wang Ping moved swiftly above the ground. Although he flew as fast as his friend, Li Qiang lost sight of Wang Ping because of too many carriages flying by in all directions. Finally they got to Wang Ping’s strange-looking house. When he was left alone there, he had a brief meal and a hot bath. As he was exhausted, he slid into bed. “If I am given a chance to live in 3008, will I enjoy it?” he wondered and fell fast asleep.)

II. Presentation 1. Please find out all the adverbial clauses in the passage. (As he was worried about the journey, he was unsettled for the first few days. He was accompanied(陪伴) by his friend Wang Ping and began his journey. Li Qiang had a headache because he was hit by a lack of fresh air. After he was taken to have a rest, he was back on his feet. Although he flew as fast as his friend, Li Qiang lost sight of Wang Ping. When he was left alone there, he had a brief meal and a hot bath. As he was exhausted, he slid into bed. “If I am given a chance to live in 3008, will I enjoy it?”)

2. Please rewrite them using past participle as the adverbial.

Worried about the journey, he…. 原因状语

T: Can you summarize the rules of p.p. used as adverbials? (Ss可用中文表述) Ss: 1、过去分词(v.-ed)短语作状语,表示谓语动作发生的时间、原因、条件、让步、伴随情况等,相当于一个状语从句。2、过去分词的逻辑主语与主句的主语一定是保持一致的。3、过去分词与主句主语之间为被动的关系；

T: Have you noticed that one of the sentences is different? In it (Although flying as fast as his friend, Li Qiang ….) a v.ing form is used instead of a p.p. Why?

S: 若分词与主句主语之间为主动的关系，则要用现在分词(V.-ing)作状语。4、前边可以加when, if, unless, once, although等连词，构成“连词+分词”形式作状语。

T：That’s right. Whether a p.p. or a v.ing form is used as the adverbial is decided by its subject. III. Practice T: LQ is lucky enough to experience a time travel trip. It is a pity we cannot. However, we can also go into another world in our own way! For example, we can read. I’m sure you know this famous and fascinating fairy tale by Anderson---The Little Mermaid. (Present the following sentences with the help of pictures. Accompanied (accompany) by a shrimp, the mermaid is dancing. Finding (find) the prince drowning in the ocean, she saves him to the shore. Although saving the prince, the mermaid doesn't let him know she is his savior. Although saved by the little mermaid, the prince doesn't know she is his savior. The Sea Witch warns that unless loved and married by the prince, she will die soon after he marries another girl. Although attracting the prince with her beauty, the mermaid can’t make him marry her. Although attracted by her beauty, the prince marries another girl.) T: Let’s do more practice to better understand this structure.

(3 minutes for Multiple Choices. Then Fill in the blanks.) IV. Group work. T: Will you enjoy life in 3008? If provided with a chance to have a time travel trip, do you want to go back to the past or go to the future? What will you do at that time? (Talk in groups of four and present a report. Remember to use p.p. phrases as adverbials in it!)
