Get one student to sing a song about 26 letters in English.

Give some letters to students and get them to fill in the blanks. C ____ E

Write some words beginning with “a”, (art, activity, ant, apple, as) and tell the

students that in the dictionary we should use their sequence of the letters . Then get students to put them into the right order.(activity, ant, apple, art, as)

Get students to find some words beginning with “b” and write on the blackboard. Ask other student to put them into the right order. 2.

Tell students that the words in a dictionary are in alphabetical order form A to Z. This helps us find the words we want quickly. If two words start with the same letter, we look at the second letter to decide which comes first. If the first two letter are the same, we look at the third letter, and so on.

Ask students to put the words in Part A in alphabetical order and write the numbers 1-8 in the blanks. Then get students to look for the words in their dictionaries and say the page number, see who is the fastest. 2.

Students correct the answers together. They can ask some questions if necessary.

1. Tell students that sometimes we can also use the guide words. Look at Part B. Guide words tell us the first and last words on a page in a dictionary. They can help us find the words quickly.

2. Help students finish the exercises in Part B, write down the page numbers for the words on the right.
