Period 4 of Module 4 Contents: Writing; Task Three-dimensional Goals:

1. Knowledge and Skills 1) Train the studetns’ writing ability.

2) Develop the students’ speaking ability.

2. Process and Strategies 1) Make the stdetns know how to use and as well as but through reading and practicing. 2) Make the stduents describe a neighbourhood by using all the relative knowledge they learnt in this module. 3. Emotion and Values 1) Make it fun to cooperate with others.

2) Try to raise the students’ cooperation awareness in their study by pair work or group work. Teaching Important Points:

1. Learn to research by cooperation. 2. Learn to make use of coordinate conjunctions to make their writing more coherent. Teaching Difficult Points:

1. Lead the studetns to taking an active part in class. 2. Describe their neighbourhood proficiently with what they learnt in this module.

Teaching Procedures Step 1 Review and Lead-in Ask a few pairs of the students to act out the dialogue they made as the homework of last class. Step 2 Writing

1. The teacher may first ask the studetns to read A lively City again carefully and underline the sentences that contain the coordinate conjunctions “and” as well as “but”.

2. Then ask the students to work in pairs comparing the differences and similarities of the two conjunctions “and” as well as “but”. Analyse the way in which the words “and” and “but” are used.

3. Complete the given paragraph with and or but on P37. Step 3 Task

1. Ask the students to make a list of the information concerning a neighourhood individually. 2. And then get the studetns into groups. Have the students exchange the information with their group members. Choose the meaningful information through discussion. 3. At last every group contacts with a neighbourhood committee. Then every group member writes a report and exchanges it with other group members to get the mistakes in it corrected through discussion. 4. Each group choose their best report and shares it with the whole class. Step 4 Language Points

Process and Strategies 1) Make the students know more about problems of villages in western Europe. 2) Help the students have a good knowledge of what they learnt in this module. 3. Emotion and Values 1) Try to raise the students’ cooperation awareness in their study by pair work or group work. 2) Teach the studetns to love their hometown as well as homeland and know more about villages of western countries. Teaching Important Points:

1. Know more about the problems of some villages in western Europe.

2. Master and apply what they leanrt in this module. Teaching Difficult Points: Lead the students to be active in class.

Teaching Procedures Step 1 Review and Lead-in

1. Ask the students to report the sentences they made after class as an assignment. 2. Ask the following questions to check the relative knowledge the students have already known, which lays a good foundation for the study of the first part—Cultural Corner. In this way you can also introduces this class. 1. Have you ever travelled to western Europe? 2. What do you know about western Europe? Step 2 Cultural Corner

1. Ask the students to read the first question individually first. 2. The studetns read the passage in Cultural Corner with the question in their ming. 3. Put the studetns into pairs and compare their answers. At last call back the answers from the whole class. What are these problems? Young people move to towns for a livelier life and for work. People can’t afford a village house because city-dwellers buy them up. Farmers sell their land and stop faming. 4. Discussion Put the students into groups. Ask the studetns to discuss what problems the villages in their area have. Step 3 Module File Give the students some time to go through it, ticking the things that they know confidently. If they are not sure of something, put a question mark next to it. If there is sth they have no idea, put a cross next to it.
