learning efficiently and inefficiently. The pictures can rouse students’ attention, because they really reflect some students learning situation. Nobody don’t want to be a successful learner. So students read the text actively. Step 2 Pre-reading In pre-reading, ask the students to read the title and have a quick glance at the pictures in the reading passage to predict the main idea. What's the passage mainly about? Maybe, it's mainly about ways or techniques to become a successful reader Step 3 Reading

Fast reading 1). Write the headings and sub-headings for the three passages

The text provides the readers strategies for becoming a good reader and the techniques of good readers. From the text we know if we want to be a good reader, we must do a lot of practice, make our reading practice enjoyable and learn the techniques of good readers. Also, the writer lists some techniques of good readers, like previewing the text, reading actively and so on. After learning the text we know how to improve our reading.

2. Careful reading 1) Guessing

After fast reading, I’d like to lead the students to read the passage carefully. I show the students three new words and help them guess the Chinese meanings in the context.

Next, I’ll ask them to read the passage carefully and underline the new words or expressions.

Finally, I encourage them to guess the meanings of the new words or expressions in the context individually and discuss in groups of four.

Teaching reflection

Although I think I design my class carefully and thoroughly, new situations may arise. So I should adjust my class to the new situations after class. In a word, the end of the class doesn’t mean the end of the teaching. I will work even harder after class.
