Book10 Unit3 Fairness for all The third period

Students: Grade 3 in Senior High School I. Analysis of the teaching material and students The theme of this unit is “Eliminating racial discrimination and achieving equality for all”. This lesson is the third period in this unit. It is adapted from the speech of Martin Luther King, I have a dream. Ask students to read the speech frequently, pay attention to intonation and rhythm and learn how to use the rhetoric to write a speech.

Students in Grade 3 have had some abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing. But they need to accumulate the difficulty words.

II. Teaching aims (1)Knowledge aims:

Let students learn and understand rhetoric“repetition, metaphors, quotations…” and learn to write a speech.

(2)Ability aims:

Let students be able to use rhetoric and read the speech emotionally.

Practice students’ abilities of reading, speaking and writing.

(3)Emotional aims: Encourage students love dreams, working hard to achieving dreams.

T: Lead the students understand the usage of rhetoric and find the sentences which used rhetoric in the passage. Design purpose: To feel the emotion that King wanted to express and to learn the rhetoric. (4)W ho can imitate the speech?

Two students imitated the speech. Step 4 Post-reading T: Do you know how to make a successful speech?

Design purpose: Go over the passage again and help the students accumulate vocabulary. Step 5 Group-work Write and give a speech. T: Please look at the handouts on your desk. There is a topic, Dream. You must decide a title, my dream, my beautiful dream, dream high dream fly…only you like. Write a speech and then show your speech.

The students have a strong interest in learning this lesson and the atmosphere is very good. Students can feel and understand the thoughts of the speech.
