Step Ⅰ Revision

Check the students’ homework and ask the students to retell the text.

A sample retelling version:

One day, my mother living in the countryside was very upset when calling me up and told me that some snakes came near the house now and then. So I decided to catch them in a merciful way without harming them.

I bought an ice-cream maker made of stain-less steel. Between the outside and the inside walls of the bowl is some jelly, which freezes when cooled. Also I prepared some ice-cubes.

I placed the frozen bowl with the ice-cubes on top over the snakes' hole, then covered them with a large bucket. At first, they abruptly disappeared into a convenient hole in the wall. The second time I left the things to cover the hole overnight, but when I examined the snakes with great caution, they still tried to bite me. At last, I found a fishing net, in the expectation that the snakes would bite again. However, to my surprise, the snakes got inactive enough and very passive , so I trapped them cautiously with the net and set them free into the wild merrily. Ask the students to read through the above passage fluently. Step Ⅱ Key words and expressions Let the Ss learn the following words and expressions and teach them to the Ss as important vocabulary, making sure that they know their meanings and the part of speech.

Learn some useful suffixes: -ic, -ful, -less, -ous; -(a)tion; -en. Ask Ss to conclude as many examples as possible. Ex.2: In this part, the Ss are offered the chance to check their understanding of the useful words and expressions they discover in the text and improve their ability of transforming between words in different grades. Ex.3: In this part, Ss are required to practice using the given words and expressions in a new situation. Step Ⅳ Self application In this section, Ss are given another group of words and expressions and they should compose their own passage according to the given pictures. First, ask the Ss to watch the pictures carefully. Then ask them some questions as clues. Picture1: How do you think the Granny can reach the walnuts on the tree? Picture2: What do you think her granddaughter did? Picture3: What do you think happened at last? Finally, make Ss to write their stories in groups. Step Ⅴ Homework Polish your story, improving the words , expressions or sentences you use.
