7B Unit6 Outdoor fun (Integrated skills) Teaching aims Knowledge aims: To grasp words and phrases: wood, period, dynasty, make a bird out of bird, use bamboo to make kites, in the 13th century, become famous for, from then on. Lead-in

1. Greet the students as usual and then have a free talk by asking them: Do you like outdoor activities?

What outdoor activity do you often do? 2. Get students to guess what outdoor activity the teacher likes to do. Lead in “kites”. Step 2 Presentation 1 1. Invite students to enjoy some common designs of kites first, and then enjoy some special designs. 2. Part A1 Do the listening practice and decide who designed the following kites. 3. Ask students to design their own kites and share them with their classmates and have a brief introduction of their designs. The teacher puts their designs on the blackboard. 4. Ask students what materials we can use to make a kite after designing them. Then lead in Weifang which is famous for making kites. Step 3 Presentation 2

Learn the history of kites 1. Show three questions on the screen:

Who made the first kite? Who made the kite better and better? Who made kites popular all over the world? 2. Introduce Mozi, Lu Ban, Cai Lun and Marco Polo by asking students to play a guessing game according to some given information. 3. PartA2 Listen and match (Listening tip1:Predicting the answers before listening ) 4. Part A3 Let’s help Millie(listening tip2: Writing down the words in shorthand)

5. Ask students to underline some key words and phrases. Step 4 Conclusion Watch a video about one of the International Kites Festivals in Weifang. Encourage students to love Chinese kites as well as Chinese cultures. Step 5 Homework 1. Design your own kites. 2. Find more information about kites. 3. Make a kite if possible.
