Unit 5 On the beach I.

Lead-in Step 1: Greetings T: Good afternoon, children.

Ss: Good afternoon, Connie. T: What’s the weather like today, Cherry? C: It’s sunny. T: Yeah, how do you feel when it is sunny, Super? S: I feel happy.

T: Great, I feel happy too.

Step 2: Free talk. T: Children, what festival is only for you all but not for me? T: In another word, what day is for you children but not for us adults? Ss: It’s Children’s Day. T: Right. When is Children’s Day?

Ss: It’s on June 1st. T: Do we have any classes on Children’s Day? Ss: No. T: Perfect. T: Where do you usually go on that day?

Presentation Step 1: Introduction

T: If you live by the sea, I think this place must be perfect for you.

(T shows the picture of a beach.) T: What is it? Let’s have a look. Ss: The beach. T: Yes, definitely. So think about - What can we do to have a great time

on the beach? -fly a kite -ride a horse -go fishing -swim -play football / volleyball -build sand castle -collect shells -listen to music -ride a jet-ski

-go surfing -relax -snorkel

(T shows the corresponding pictures of each activity and teach Ss the new phrases when necessary.)

Step 2: Language point: 1.

To have a great time=to have a good time=to have fun=to enjoy yourself E.g. Tom: Mom, I am off to Jim’s birthday party.

Mom: Have a great time.

On the beach E.g. There is a crab on the beach.

There are many shells on the beach. 3.

Collect: get or gather something together by plans. Collect stamps, collect shells, collect coins, collect model cars, collect dolls, etc. 4.

snorkel: to dive with a snorkel E.g. With a snorkel, a diver can stay under the water for quite a long time.

Consolidation T: Great job. You have got so many brilliant ideas. Now let’s see Lucy and her classmates are doing on the beach today. Please open your book and turn to page 38. See Exercise 1, Look listen and match. Step One: Listening Practice. T plays the tape recording and ask the Ss to finish the task on Page 38. T checks the answer with the Ss.

Step Two: Guessing Game: What am I doing? Step 1: T divides Ss into 6 Groups and invites 2 Ss of each Group to come to the front;

Step 2: S picks a lottery and does the corresponding action and ask “What am I doing?”; Step 3: Other members in the group have two chances to guess it out as a priority.

Step 4: If succeeds, T will give the group 1 point.

Step 5: If fails, other groups may have only one chance to guess it out.

Step 6: If succeeds, T will give each other groups 1 point.

Step 7: If fails, T will announce the answer and write it on the BB.

Step Three: A board game: What are they doing? (If time permits) This boardgame is designed for students to practice using present

continuous. All you will need is a dice and some counters. Students take turns rolling the dice and moving along the board accordingly. When a student lands on a tile with a verb on it, they will need to make a sentence describing what the person is doing using that verb. First to finish wins!
