Teaching Aims:

Knowledge aims: This class enables students to learn specific words about describing a city.

Ability Aims: This class not only gets the students to improve their reading comprehension, but to improve their oral English with the description of a city and the protection of our environment. It can cultivate the students’ team spirit as well.

Emotional Aims: This class aims to cultivate students’

love of their hometown and their consciousness of protecting our environment.

Key points and important points It aims to train students’ abilities of generalization and use the words in Module 4 to talk about our hometown.

A short video of Xiamen will be shown to the class and ask the students to guess which city it is.

Step 3 Presentation Extensive Reading

Watch a cartoon (of this passage) and answer them one simple question. Intensive Reading The whole class role-plays the passage. Let them have a discussion and finish the form.

Summary Summarize this passage with a mind map.

Group Work The whole class will be divided into 6 groups and each group will make a poster of the local tourist attractions in Tianjin and then ask them to present their posters. Group Discussion

Two pictures will be shown to the students and ask them to have a discussion about the causes of smog and solutions to this problem.

Homework Make the students write a short passage of a tourist attraction in Tianjin with about 100 words.

Teaching Reflection This class mainly aims to make students learn how to talk about a city and let them to

introduce some tourist attractions in their hometown and cultivate their love of their hometown. In the meanwhile, they are going to discuss about how to show their love to their hometown in order to make their city more beautiful.

In general, most of the teaching aims of this lesson were finished. The most interesting part is students making posters and their designs were totally beyond my imagination. And basically I am satisfied with my performance. As to the unsatisfactory of my class, I should try to guide the students and let them find their own answers instead of telling them the answers directly. Also, I am supposed to give the students with clear instructions so that the students could know what to do.

When they were doing the group competition, they couldn’t understand the word “disordered”, so I paraphrased this word with the phrase “out of order”. Then it seemed smoothly afterwards. If I had had this class again, I would have led my students to the knowledge and give them clear instructions. Only in this way can we have an effective class in our daily teaching. Hopefully with my efforts, the students begin to love English and their ability will be enhanced.
