Module 4 Unit 3 Tomorrow’s world

Project Writing a science fiction story Teaching aims: 1. Learn about two science fiction stories. 2. Write students’ own science fiction stories.

Teaching important and difficult points: The section here is designed to help students improve their English through doing a project. In the first half, students will learn what a science fiction story is like and how to write a science fiction story. In the course of doing the project, students are encouraged to use their imagination to think about what will happen in the future with the development of science and technology. Students can work in groups to discuss what kind of story they are going to write. They are expected to know how to cooperate and how to fulfil each part of the task.

In the second half, students shall decide the setting, main characters and plot of their story When each group member has finished his or her part, the whole group should put their parts together, proofread their story, and tell their story to the rest of the class. Teaching procedures: Step 1. Lead-in Students enjoy a video clip and find out what films are included in it. Science fiction films, stories, writers. Discuss the similarities and differences between science fictions and common novels. Similarities: time, place, characters, plot(beginning, development, climax, ending) Differences: mystery or fantasy VS. science and technology Step 2.
